D-day appeared quicker than Jacob had hoped. He had finished packing last night and it didn't seem to be very difficult since there wasn't much that he owned.
It was hard for him to get through this week as he was mainly focused on school work. The distraction of it was much needed, but his mental state was worn thin. He was mentally exhausted and just wanted a break from everything for a moment.
After digesting the words that Kevin had told him, he realized his feelings were reciprocated, but it wasn't right. Jacob was moving and with his boyfriend. It was something that was wrong time, wrong place.
"Jacob, lets go. The plane is going to be here soon and we still have to check in." His boyfriend had kept yelling at him all day to make sure he was ready. They weren't planning on coming back anytime soon, so whatever they left was left for good.
Kevin, on the other hand, had spent the entire week working. Any shift he could pick up, he would take. He needed all of the distractions as he could get. It should have been easily predicted that he would have lost another fight for his soulmate. That's what's always happened. That was what he was meant to live with.
His friend paid attention to his drastic mood change and worried for the older. After a week of watching him emotionless and walking around like he hadn't slept in ages, Eric finally decided to ask about the other.
"He's leaving," Kevin announced. They had been by themselves most of the day since the museum was quiet and not busy at all. They spent their time meandering around the halls and exhibits, bored out of their minds.
As soon as Kevin finally decided to speak, even with the hesitations and pauses in his words, Eric knew it was best to just listen and wait for the other to say everything he needed to say.
"He's moving to another freaking country, Eric. This is another lifetime that I've lost my soulmate. Every time this happens, I always tell myself that it wasn't meant to be in this lifetime, so maybe it's the next one that I finally get him again. For once, I want him to be mine." His words grow louder and louder. It was a good thing that they had found themselves in the art garden, out back.
Eric could feel the hurt that his friend was feeling. He had heard of all of the stories and all of the times Kevin was excited about what he and Jacob had done. Kevin was in love. He was in love with their souls being connected and how they were destined to be. Eric admired that greatly. He envied what the older had, but he knew he would have that too, eventually. So, when the older told him the sad news of his favorite person leaving him, Eric felt the pain as if it was happening to him too.
"When does he leave?" Eric asks. Kevin tells him how the other was leaving that day, maybe even at that moment, he wasn't too sure. "Well, what are you waiting for? Kevin, he feels the same about you. You're soulmates. I know for a fact he doesn't love his boyfriend. That sounds so wrong to say, but you guys are meant for each other. You can't keep letting him get away from you. Go."
Kevin looks at him confused, thrown off by the other's words. "We're still on the clock, Eric. I can't just leave, I'll be fired."
"God dammit, Kevin. There's a family emergency and you need to leave right now. Can't you just do something for yourself for once?!" The older could tell that the other wasn't actually angry at him, but what he said was true. He had never thought to put himself first in any lifetime of his, it was always letting Jacob get away.
Kevin's eyes widen, as realization hit him with what Eric was telling him to do. This was it. He needs to get his soulmate back and he was tired of having to be patient. "Eric, cover for me. I need to leave."
The younger bursts out laughing as he watches Kevin run out of the museum so fast. Shaking his head, he gets back to work, finding his boss to tell him that the other needed to leave. He just hopes that Kevin comes home with his soulmate finally.
