Y/N's POV

I left my dorm to go get some hot cocoa and stumbled upon Ruby giving Jaune a speech.

Ruby: We have to put our teammates first, and ourselves second. Your team deserves a great leader, Jaune. And I think that can be you. *she walks over to you and opens the door to your dorm but waves to Jaune before entering the room.* Have a good night, Jaune! Oh Y/N where are you going.

Y/N: Just gonna get some hot cocoa Ozpin got me hooked. Do you want some?

Ruby: Sure, thanks Y/N! *went inside the dorm.*

Y/N: *Turns to Jaune* She's right you know. You could be a great leader.

And with that, you walked away leaving Jaune to think about what you and Ruby had said.

We had gone to a place called Forever Fall, a forest with trees that had completely red leaves.

Y/N: Now I see why it's called Forever Fall.

Shinketsu: Yeah.

Y/N: Oh you're finally talking again.

Shinketsu: Sorry the Author had a job for me and I still might not be done with it.

Y/N: Well you got to admit even though the Author ain't the greatest they've given me a pretty good life.

???: HEY! STOP BREAKING FOURTH WALL KUN HE'S HAD ENOUGH.

Y/N: Fine you don't have to yell.

Goodwitch had just finished explaining that you all needed to get at least one jar of sap and that as long as you did that you could do whatever you wanted. You and team RWBY went off to get the sap and explore.

Y/N: Hey Yang can you hold my jar of sap? I need to deal with something. *you chuck your jar to her*

Yang: Sure, but what are you gonna do.

Y/N: For now I'm just observing.

Jaune's POV

Cardin made me get seven jars of sap and then bring them all over to him and his team, who were just relaxing against some trees and rocks. I set the jars down before collapsing face-first onto the floor.

Cardin: Hey, great work, Jaueny boy! Now that wasn't too hard, was it?

Jaune: I think I'm allergic to this stuff...

Cardin: Greeeeat, great, great. So, Jaune, I bet you're asking yourself, 'Why did my buddy Cardin ask me to collect seven jars of tree sap when there's only five of us?'

I was still exhausted but nodded.

Jaune: That is one of the many questions I have asked myself today, yes.

I sat up and Cardin smiled at me.

Cardin: Well, come with me, and you'll find out.

I gulp, worried but follow him as he leads me to a hilltop and what we can see is my team plus Y/N all standing around.

Jaune: Cardin, wh-what's going on?

Cardin: Payback.

Jaune: Y/N, Pyrrha...? Wh-what are you-?

Cardin smashed his fist against the ground.

Cardin: That's them. A red-haired know-it-all and that H/C haired freak, think they're so much better than me. Alright, boys...

Cardin pulled out a familiar box from yesterday.

Cardin: Last night, old Jaune here managed to round up an entire box of Rapier Wasps, and now, we're gonna put him to work.

Russel grabbed my shoulder and I let out a nervous laugh.

Cardin: Now, according to one of the essays you wrote for me last week, these nasty things loooove sweats. I'm thinking it's time we teach them a thing or two.

Team CRDL gets up and Cardin offers me a hand only to quickly yank me up and push a jar of sap into my hands.

Cardin: And you're gonna do it.

Jaune: Do what?

Cardin: Hit her with the sap!

He leans in close to my face his terrible breath hitting me with every word.

Cardin: Either that, or I'll have a chat with Goodwitch, and you'll be on the first airship out of Beacon.

I looked to the sap then back to a grinning Team CRDL. I turn to throw the jar trying to steel my nerves and stop my shaking hand, but before I can do it I think back to last night what Ruby and Y/N said.

Jaune: No.

Cardin: What did you say?

I gripped the jar tightly and prepared for the consequences of what I was about to do.

Jaune: I said... NO!

I threw the jar at Cardin, covering his breastplate in the red liquid inside. Cardin looks at himself and laughs darkly.

Cardin: Oh, you've done it now...

I laughed to myself before trying to block an attack from Dove, Sky then grabs me and pulls me over towards him before pushing me to the ground. I look up and groan seeing a sap covered Cardin standing over me. He picks me up only to punch me back down to the ground.

Cardin: You know that wasn't very smart, Jauney boy.

He picked me up while the rest of CRDL watches.

Cardin: I'm gonna make sure they send you back to mummy in teeny tiny pieces.

Jaune: I don't care what you do to me...

I gathered my strength and looked at Cardin with fury baring my fangs.

Jaune: ...but you are not messing with my team.

Cardin momentarily looked terrified, but quickly regained his composure.

Cardin: What? You think talk like that makes you tough? You think you're a big strong man now?

I smiled as one last sign of defiance, expecting him to knock me out and get me expelled, but when he went to hit me a flash of blinding light shone and when it disappeared Cardin had dropped me and was holding his fist in pain. I looked down and saw I was completely healed and my hands were glowing. I think back and remember...

Flashback

Jaune: Pyrrha?

Pyrrha: It's all right. I used my Aura to unlock yours, but the energy that protects you now is your own. You have a lot of it.

Flashback end

Sky kicks me in the back knocking me on my stomach. I looked up to see Cardin approaching but I wore a face full of determination.

Cardin: Let's see how much of a man you really are...

As the last word left Cardin's mouth we hear a low growl. A Grimm swatted Cardin to the ground and his team ran off.

Russel: That's a big Ursa!

Cardin is frozen in place as the Ursa roars at him before swatting him away with its claws It looks at me as I cower in fear but it ignores me sniffing in the air and turning back to Cardin it towers over Cardin, who collects himself and draws his mace, only for the Ursa to smack it to my feet. I look up conflicted asking myself whether I should run or fight.

Y/N's POV

I watched from the trees as the Ursa prepared to strike Cardin. While that was happening Pyrrha, Ruby, and Weiss came to find the scene.

Pyrrha: Oh, no!

Jaune blocked a strike from the Ursa and struggles to hold it back to keep both Himself and Cardin safe. Meanwhile, Weiss is drawing Mytenaster. I drop down from my hiding spot and stop her.

Y/N: Don't.

Ruby: Y/N! Where have you-

Y/N: Later Ruby, later.

We all turned back to watch what was happening I nod to Pyrrha who understands what I mean and prepares for the worst case. Jaune gets his shield out of the Ursa's paws and slashes its stomach, causing the Ursa to lash out at him. He rolls out of the way and jumps over its swipe at his feet, but left himself open to a midair attack. He lands a good distance away but gets up immediately and charges at the Grimm, passing Cardin on the way who was still on the floor. The Ursa knocks Jaune behind it blocking his leaping attack, and Jaune looks to his scroll realising something he grows angry and rushes at the Ursa while it rushes at him.

I take that moment of distraction to briefly unseal some of my power, my eye colour changing to white and black, I change the laws of time for a moment giving Pyrrha time to move Jaune's shield so that he isn't left wide open. Pyrrha's hand glows a dark red and that same glow surrounds Jaune's shield moving it to defend from the Ursa's claws. Jaune uses this sudden defensive move to lean on the ground before pushing his shield up and slashing through the Grimm's neck. The head of the beast falls to the ground and the body makes a loud *THUD* as it also falls to the floor.

Ruby: Uhhh... What?

Weiss: How did you...?

Pyrrha: Well, Ruby has her speed, you have your glyphs, Y/N his Teleportation. My semblance is polarity.

Ruby: Whoa, you can control poles...

Y/N: Not quite little wolf. *Places hand on Ruby's head and ruffles her hair a bit*

Weiss: Polarity means she has control over magnetism!

Ruby: *Magnets are cool, too...*

Y/N: *I agree.*

We both looked at each other and smiled, Ruby looked back to Jaune and Pyrrha and I started walking back.

Weiss: Wait, Where are you going?

Ruby: Yeah! We gotta tell them what happened!

Pyrrha: We could... Or perhaps we could keep it our little secret?

Y/N: Come on you two, let Jaune be the hero he wants to be.

Jaune's POV

I walked over to Cardin and offered him a hand. He smiles and takes it as I pull him up.

Cardin: Holy crap, Jaune!

I bared my fangs and growled at him.

Jaune: Don't ever mess with my team - my friends - ever again.

I stared him dead in the eyes with a similar look to what Y/N gave him back in combat class.

Jaune: Got it?

Cardin looked at me intimidated and maybe even a little sorry. With that done I walked off from a frozen Cardin. As I walked away I could have sworn I heard Y/N say something...

Y/N: And a hero is born.

(Timeskip to the rooftops of Beacon)

Y/N's POV

Pyrrha: No Cardin tonight?

We both walked up to him.

Y/N: Yeah, I thought you two were best buds?

Jaune turned to us lowered his ears in shame.

Jaune: Pyrrha, Y/N... I'm sorry. I was a jerk! You two were only trying to be nice, and... I had all this stupid macho stuff in my head-

Pyrrha: Jaune! It's okay.

Y/N: If I know anything it's what stupid macho stuff can make you do. It's all good bro.

All three of us share a smile.

Y/N: Anyway I'm gonna take my leave now see you guys later.

Pyrrha: Bye.

Jaune: Y/N, thank you for what you said to me last night.

You wave to them and walked back to your dorm.

Yang: So how did it go?

Y/N: Didn't hang around for too long but looks like Arkos has begun its voyage.

Yang: Nice!

We high fived as RW-- looked on in worry, while Blake had tears of pride flowing from her eyes.

Weiss/Ruby: What is Arkos?

Y/N: YOU UNCULTURED SWINE WEISS, AND RUBY YOU'RE MY GIRLFRIEND HOW DON'T YOU KNOW WHAT ARKOS IS.

Ren and Nora burst into the dorm.

Ren: We heard Arkos.

Nora: What happened?

Y/N: The ship has just started preparations to sail and... RUBY AND WEISS DON'T KNOW WHAT ARKOS IS.

Ren: WHAT! HOW?!

Nora: Y/N YOU HAVE FAILED YOU MUST EDUCATE YOUR GIRLFRIEND MORE.

Y/N: That's what he said.

Yang: Ayyyy!

Ruby had turned into a tomato and Weiss was even more confused.

Weiss: What's so embarrassing Ruby, Nora just said that Y/N needed to educate you... OH OUM I SEE NOW!

You picked Ruby up in bridal position and whisked her off making a call on the way for a hotel room.
