Chapter 1 (Alex POV)
This meadow is so calm, so peaceful so-
Wake up
Something shakes me in my dream. For love of everything peaceful, all those demons trying to wake me up shall not prosper. Amen. I wait...., no more shaking. Good.
Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
I wake up on the floor with my butt aching. I glare at the person and see its my mother. Well at least she was. She and her husband just realized that I was adopted eleven years ago. I actually thought they were kidding but after a few days I realized they weren't. I was made a mere servant in this house.
"Dunbarin are you even listening to me?" she shrieked, but I didn't answer. I kept on glaring at her not wanting to answer.
"I told you to take a shower, you worthless child. Its almost 6 in the morning and youre not yet dressed." She practically spits on my face.
Sheesh woman, say it don't spray it.
I put on fake smile and said to her, "Thank you dear mother for waking me up two hours before we actually get to school." As I say this her stare changes deadly. Then she slaps me. Don't worry, I'm fine. It's not like it's the first time. I know, my life's a mess. She mutters some Yoruba curses before leaving.
Oh did I mention we live in Africa, more specifically Nigeria.
Taking my shower I think about how my life has changed for the past two months. I've been having bad stomach cramps that cause me to blackout, I've developed a severe case of ADHD and a slight dyslexia, and somehow my iris color has changed from brown to green and don't get me started on my hair. Once short and curly, its now long, straight and color blue and black. And I have freckles. I look fricking adorable!!!!
I get dressed up ignoring the stupid faces my so called siblings are giving me and get dressed for school.
'They're not my family' I constantly remind myself.

I'm in school waiting for anyone to come in so I can talk my worries away. A very loud voice disrupted me from my thoughts. It was a friend of mine, Teni.
"Woah, Dunbarin youre here early. What's up?" she asks excitedly. "Nothing much," I say, "I'm just bored."
"Hope you're good. I was really scared on your first blackout. I thought you kicked the bucket." She says with a chuckle, trying to lift up the mood.
I finally assured her that all was good we join the rest of my classmates and we continued to chat. As we get there I notice a lot of stares directed at me. I don't like the attention at all. And all because I'm pretty.
I don't know how but the topic changes to how my strange illness had a good turnout. The girls in the group were encouraging me to flaunt my looks.
Girls.
It doesnt mean I can flaunt my looks just like that. I mean my hair is hip length and Im 5'4 sooo..
I think they have a point.
Soon it is time for assembly and I walk downstairs to the hall before I get punished. People start trailing in and soon the school grounds is already half-filled when the ground started shaking and a loud roar sounded.
This can't be good.
Sooo Apparently, Nigeria doesnt like being rational because its having an-
"Earthquake!!"
Yeah, that.
Frozen in place, something large lands in front of me, while everyone is scrambling around looking for safety. I almost look brave. Almost. The thing that lands in front of me looked like two tree stumps and ..Is that flesh? It can't be, this thing is too big to be human. I looked high up to see an eyeball. Yeah, you read correctly, an eyeball, staring back at me greedily. It was filthy, it was in a diaper, it was huge, i-i-its a cyclops. But that cant be possible, they're myths.
"It's not possible,... myths,... no worries it's all a dream." I continuously mutter to myself
This can't be real, I only read them in stories. If cyclops are real then...then...No. I'm not going there. This isn't real. Yeah, its just a figment of my imagination.
That's it.
That is not it.
Because during my psychological session, the thing whacked me off my feet and I crashed into the wall. I groan of pain escapes from my lips and my eyesight becomes fuzzy. That filthy abomination had the nerve!!!
The cyclops tries to grab at me thinking he has knocked me out. But I scramble away scrapping my knee in the process. I hiss and see a bit of blood come from the scratch. I frown knowing I might not be alive to attend to the scratch because of the way this cyclops is behaving. What does he want with me anyway? It continues this way for what seems like hours until he freezes and lets out a loud pain filled roar. I see the cause of his pain, an arrow planted into his shoulder, but I do not see where the arrow came from.
Then I see them, my so called saviors. They're both cute if I may add. One had tanned skin, blonde shaggy hair, grey eyes and he's very tall. The other has dark skin, short brown curly hair and chocolate brown eyes. He's not so tall, but still taller than me. They both hold weapons, blondie with the bow and arrow and Coco with the sword. As blondie is about to shoot the arrow, I jump behind my principal's car as if it can save me from my mental meltdown.
Of course I've give them nicknames, what else will I call them.
Last minute nicknames, am I right?
No? Okay.
Suddenly it's all quiet. Like nothing ever happened. I sigh realizing I must be imagining it. Darn me and my extraordinary imagination! I soon jolt back up when someone taps my shoulder. I look up to see Coco smiling at me.
"Hey, my names Jamie," he says offering me his hand, "What's yours?"
"I dont know."
