Chapter 24(Alex's POV)
Research isn't really going great. I'm hungry and bored. And sword fighting isn't until 2:30. And worst of all,...I'm out of Oreos!!
I sniff, my eyes tearing up at the sight of Percy's empty Oreo wrapper. I look down on my dinosaur pajamas, and cringing at the sticky syrup stain on my lap. I kick the covers off my feet and fall to the floor with a resounding thud before crawling the distance to the bathroom.
I climb into the shower, and begin washing my body. I get my hair brush, trying to untangle the stubborn knots in it. I grunt with each tug and soon finish with a relieved huff.I wrap myself in my towel and brush my teeth. My teeth are now sparkling white, I walk to my chest where Lacey piled up my clothes. She always makes sure I don't wear any boyish clothes.
I dig through all my clothes to look for any clean clothes that aren't too girly. I pull out my favorite leggings and sniff it. I shiver in disgust at the smell, and I frown as I dump it into the cleaning chest. In camp, we don't wash our clothes. The Hectate cabin found a cleaning spell and cast it in a chest that is found in each cabin. Put it in the chest and 'Ta da!'. Your clothes are clean. After ten hours that is. The problem is that I need my leggings now!
I sigh and continue to dig through my clothes. I find a pair of short overalls , they're a bit short but alright. I wear my camp shirt underneath and put on my overalls and a pair of converse. I burst out of the cabin and take a breath of the fresh camp air. Then I let out a dramatic sigh.
I stroll around casually, trying to memorize the cabins and my way around. I pass by the entrance of the woods and come to a halt. A small voice whispers for me from the woods. It calls for me. I follow the voice in a trance like state. I swiftly dodge hanging branches and woodland animals flee from my path. The voice stops and so do I. I look around scared and a bit fearful of my location.
"Hello?" I call out. Soon after I hear the bushes rustle. I snap my head towards it quickly. I move closer slowly and part the bushes with my slightly trembling fingers. Originally, I expected an overly large monster to appear in that small bush, but what I saw made me squeal. A cute little bunny!!!
"Oh gods. You are soooo cute. I just wanna pinch your cute little chubby cheeks. Yes I do!" I continue baby talking the rabbit, who looks uncomfortanle as I hold him. I'm 70% sure it's a he. I think.
"I know you were traumatized by that werewolf, but are you seriously talking to yourself? Are you sure you don't need to see a shrink?" A voice calls out. I turn to see a girl with tanned skin and slight and very intimidating muscles. She has dark hair and hazel eyes that is narrowed at me.
"What's a shrink?" I ask. She sighs and rolls her eyes like I asked a stupid question and that makes me frown. "A therapist. A shrink is a therapist darling." She says mockingly. I scowl harder, many people seem to hate me lately.
"I'm sorry, but have we met before? Why do you dislike me so much?" I ask uneasily, but then she rolls her eyes again and scoffs, "Are empty up there? First, you prance around a second after we've finished a battle then you tattle some stupid prophecy. My brother just came back and we can't have any time together. And because of what? A stupid little naïve girl too innocent to even understand what death is!" At the end of the rant, she is left panting and her eyes are red.
My eyes start filling with tears. I never did anything to her. I never wanted her to get hurt. Guilt begins to eat me from my inside, and makes my inside churn.
"I'm sorry." I whisper out, trying to hold in a sob. The girl looks up, shock evident on her face but she quickly frowns. She shakes her head, turns around and stalks away.
"Wait!" I call after her, "I don't know my way!" I run after her until I am right next to her. After a few minutes, she stops in front of a boulder, and looks at me, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. She places her hand on the boulder. The outline of her hand glows red, and from that glowing outline, thin tendrils of light spread across the boulder and it shakes. The boulder slowly moves aside and reveals a lab like room. In the room there are many machines and my favorite pet companion dragon, Festus.
I 'oohed' and 'aahed' and squealed. It was so awesome. I bounced on my heels eager to help.
"Can I help? I wanna do something!" I exclaim. The girl looks at me, a smirk visible on her face. She points her finger at me, "You," she pauses, probably for dramatic effect. "Are going to babysit Harley."
My smile instantly drops, "W-what?"
"Did I stutter?" She asks. Which is kinda ironic, considering I was the only one that stuttered.
"Eeeeeeeeek!" I small voice squeaks and I am pushed to the floor a second later. A little boy's face, probably eight years old, appears in my vision. He has dark curly hair that is all messed up and brown eyes. In his hands, he holds and electrical drill. He looks like an over- enthusiastic-mechanic murderer.
"It's the dog girl! Nyssa brought me the shifter!" The boy exclaims, carelessly throwing the drill. I flinch at his high pitched aqueals and silently plead with the girl, Nyssa, to save me.
"Nah, he's your problem now." She walks away.
"Do the thing! I want a puppy!" He shrieks. I sigh.
This is going to take a while.
