The taxi came to an abrupt stop, I opened my eyes to see tall buildings surrounding me, people walking in every direction, colourful, blinding lights, I was finally here: London. As hard as it was destined to be, I would have to try and forget everything, Dan included. I had this all sorted out; if possible I would try and contact my cousin who I knew lived at the heart of London, although, we hadn't seen each other since we were almost teenagers so I'm not quite sure how she would react, but I decided to give it a shot.

"Hello Abigail? It's Amelia-"

"Oh hello Amelia! It's been a while hasn't it?" She interrupted, she already seemed too upbeat for my liking.

"Yes it has, I'm in London right now and I was wondering if it's okay to stop by?"

"Why yes! Of course! Of course!"

Her nasally voice went straight into my ear and right out the other. After telling me the address and details I set off, the wheels of my suitcase clicking behind me as I dragged it along. So far I enjoyed being in London, it buzzed with energy and it didn't have that horrible smell of manure wherever I walked. I arrived at the address that I was informed with and chapped hesitantly, unsure of how to react when I saw her, I decided to just mirror her.

"Amelia! God, it's so good to see you after such a long time! Come in, come in!" She never even gave me a chance to speak as she enthusiastically welcomed me to her house, that's when she noticed my suitcase.

"Oh? You moved out?" She asked. I nodded, I explained everything, not leaving a single detail out. I was surprised that her overly-shocked reactions didn't interrupt my story, she patiently waited until I was finished so she could drown me with her list of everlasting questions. She had seemed to grasp onto what I was trying to ask from her without experiencing the embarrassment of actually asking.

After the first hour we spent together catching up on our lives, from what I could gather she was really outgoing, and had a bubbly personality: something I didn't have. Her appearances seemed to match her personality; mid-length curly, brown hair bouncing along as she jolted about telling her adventurous stories. I guessed that after spending so much time out in the peaceful quietness of the countryside that I was blown away at how enthusiastic people generally were...except Dan. He was quiet and he kept to himself, a quality that didn't seem so luxurious then as it is now...no, stop. Forget Dan. He forgot you. He's gone. My mind was the only thing that was keeping me straight, constantly I was thinking about Dan but I just couldn't bring myself to think about anything else other that him.

Why?

"Amelia?" Abigail droned to gain my attention.

"Yeah sorry, I was just thinking."

"You know you can stay if you want, you're more than welcome to. I've been looking for a roommate but no one seems to be interested, I mean, is it me?!" She roared, her laugh causing me to roll my eyes discreetly.

Yes. It is, Abigail. It is definitely you.

As annoying as she seemed, I was however grateful for her for letting me move in with her. I promised that I would get a job, pay my share of the rent and do my part of chores. For some reason, she was unnecessarily interested in my music tastes, she asked me a range of questions to which I answered to, baffled at her sudden upbringing of the subject.

"Why are you asking me this?" I asked raising my brow.

"Oh, sorry I just love my music and I can't be with anyone who can't put up with my music."

"O-okay..." I replied heading off into the bedroom I was designated with. It didn't seem so bad; the walls might need a fresh coat of paint, maybe the furniture could be doing with a move around but I've been in worse conditions...like when I was with Dan. No, Amelia focus!

I began unpacking the essentials first, but it wasn't too long before I was interrupted by Abigail.

"Hey Amelia? Do you want to go out tonight? Just to celebrate you 'moving in'."

I almost said no, right now I just wanted to have a quiet night in, but I guess that doesn't exist Abigail's books, plus I figured that I should build my self esteem and my social skills, and also make myself familiar with London, who knows? I'm might be here for the rest of my life.

Abigail was familiar with the attire of each of the different nightclubs and pubs, so I let her dress me like I was some Barbie doll. I ended up with a white crop top and a red skater skirt, I didn't feel comfortable at all but there's always room for improvements.

Sweaty bodies surrounded me as I felt like I was entrapped in a claustrophobic wall of people. I did at least attempt to enjoy myself but I only got a few glasses of some alcoholic drink down me before I gave up and left alone to wonder the unknown streets of London. Abigail was certainly used to this, she was too drunk to even notice my disappearance, but I'm sure she won't mind. I had no other choice but to let the cold breezy winds send chills up my overly exposed body and lower my temperature. Shivering, I made my way through a street that didn't seem familiar to me, only later to realise that I had took a wrong turning, great where do I go now?

See, in the countryside there's usually only ever one main road to follow so it was hard to get yourself lost, but cities are like mazes, it takes years to know your bearings. I remembered how easy it was to find Dan's house from mine...dammit Amelia stop it! I groaned loudly gaining a few stares from complete strangers. I circled, trying to find a street I was familiar with.

"Can I help you?" A voice behind me spoke up, it was a girls voice and it didn't seem to sound any less scared than mine.

"That would be great, I've kind of got myself lost." I mumbled embarrassingly. She giggled and smiled sweetly.

"It's no problem, you're not the first to get lost, who hasn't? So, where are you heading?"

"Drury lane." I replied making her eyes widen. I furrowed my brow at her questioningly.

"I used to have a cousin who lived there." She answered nodding her head. I followed her as she began to direct me into the right direction.

"Well actually, I'm staying with my cousin, I moved today and this is my first day in London."

"Ah! Well hope London treats you well." She chuckled. She seemed nice and not like my cousin, which kind of gave me some reassurance that not everyone here was obnoxious as her. Eventually we reached Abigail's door and I slid my keys into the lock, but before departing from one another I was determined to make a friend.

"I'm sorry I never caught your name." I asked just as she turned away.

"Elise...Smith." She replied. Smith, like Dan. Dammit Amelia! Smith is a common name there's no way they're related.

"Thanks for the help, I'm Amelia by the way. Hope we could maybe meet again?"

"Sure! I'll see you around." She smiled and turned the corner. So far so good: first day and I've already made a friend.
