Chapter 32

I was at work but I still couldn't shake what Elizabeth said to me. It's been two months since the dinner and Daisy sometimes comes to visit me and Noah while I've been trying to avoid my father.

It's been a long day, there has been a lot of people in the ER, mostly because there was an accident with two trains. As I was walking down the hall to take some injured people into the emergency room, I felt my phone vibrate. I took a look at it, it was a text from Charles, and like 30 more. So when I was done with the injured people I took my phone out and went into the stairway to answer it.
"Hey, Charles what's up?"
"Did you hear or see Barbara, at the ER?"
"No, she's supposed to be with Noah at home." "No she's not, she took him out to the playground and they took the two trains that had an accident." My heart quickly sinked. "Wait wait what do you mean she took him out? Today's not even his play day? Are they hurt? Were they transferred here?" I started to panic.

"Hey I'm just now getting here. Where are you?"
"Second floor, west wing." He came as fast as he could and he wasn't alone. Adam and Zoe, were with him. "Look it's my fault she tried to call you but you didn't answer so she called me. And I said yes." I tried taking deep breaths to process all this. They could be anywhere." I said putting a hand on my forehead.

"Where are all the emergencies going?" Adam asked as he snapped me out of my thoughts. "....East wing.... ER. Imma go look outside." Zoe followed me and when we went outside we saw tons of ambulances, but the one that caught my eye was the one with William coming out of it with Dixon.
"Doctor Williams, have you seen, a baby..... 9 months old, brown hair, brown eyes, wearing a..... green shirt and brown jeans?"
"Look Blake we have seen a lot of babies, some of them even went to Mercy." Dixon said as he was putting his hand onto someone's bleeding chest. "Who is this baby that you're looking for Natalie?" Asks Williams. "My son, he was with his nanny, on those trains so please, if you see a lady, her names Barbara, with my son, please tell me." Dixon grabs my hand and says, " Ok, I'll go look for him, just stay here and wait and I'll keep you posted, I promise." Zoe held me in her arms as I just cried. We went back inside to the waiting area where everyone was. Josie, Michael, my brother Williams, Daisy, Leroy, and even Elizabeth came as well. They gave me the rest of the day off, so I just sat with them and waited for any news.

As we all sat there, I saw doctor Dixon head our way and I stood up. "So did you find them? Is my baby okay?" He was quite for a minute but then he finally spoke up, "We found, Barbara and we also found this........" my heart sinked as I took Noah's hat from his hand and started crying.
"What does this mean?" Asked Charles.
"We found a body, it matches what you told me, brown hair, brown eyes."
"My baby's not dead. He can't be." I said as Charles held me in his arms.

We needed to go and see if it was Noah, so we stood outside of the glass window and looked in to see him lying there. With his bear in his hand. "No that's not Noah. No it can't be my baby's not dead. He's not dead." Charles tried so hard not to cry as he held me in his arms. I asked Dixon if I can go inside to take a closer look at him and he said yeah. Before we went inside we had to wear something to cover our body, hair, and mouth.

Once we go inside, I hold his hand and they were cold as ice. "Noah, baby. I wish I was there with you, to hold you, to tell you that everything was going to be okay, but it wasn't. And I wasn't there. I'm so so so sorry baby,........."
"We love you, we always will." Charles said as he held me once agin.
