The Nereides will need more than mettle*
should approaching ship prove ill-intentioned.
Praise the Goddess they are in fine fettle*,
for rending ship insists no abstention.

Brutally eager and approaching fast,
the ship resembles a malicious shark
the girls are sobered though somewhat aghast,
so cruelly leer eyes* on zeroing bark.

Penelope's grim grey eyes hold counsel,
weighing the peril, assessing choices,
she coolly arrives at shrewd espousal*
issues commands in calmest of voices.

Though untried in battle, Penelope
is inspired by divine epiphany.

*courage + pun ;)
*fettle = form, health
*Ancient Greek ships had eyes painted on the prow + pun ;)
*espousal = adoption of an idea
*epiphany = a sudden intuitive inspiration
