'For the sake of...,' Ampelios begins
when Circe counters: 'You dare mention him?'
with her proudly lifted and haughty chin -
she is superbly intimidating.
'Mother,' Ampelios humbly replies,
'desire delivers events never meant.
Immortal or mortal, we cannot choose sires,
do not vent your ire on one, innocent.'
'Innocent!' growls Circe, arousing beasts,
who stand as one and snarl menacingly.
'Your father, my father sired this bequest,
in what way was that done unknowingly?'
'To err is human, to forgive divine,
