Bidding adieu with affectionate words,
Tritons beguile like tender sea lions,
they make soft promises of love deferred,
then abruptly leave, tails strewing diamonds.
'What is our course, captain?' Thetis requests
'Sail towards the Echinades Islands,
And thus shall I test our erstwhile prowess,
if troubled, there shall we seek asylum.'
Raising a Triton shell gracing her waist,
Thetis summons the girls to attention,
Nereides respond with astounding haste,
nulling Penelope's apprehension.
The captain smiles fondly, more than well-pleased,
Discipline is needed to survive the seas.
