Chapter 1 - Sweet Sixteen

Hi everyone! My name is Emily Watkins. I grew up in a small village in Kansas with my mum and my brother Tyler. When I was five years old my father committed suicide after he's been diagnosed with cancer. My mum fell in a deep depression since then. Tyler and I were trying everything to help her to get better. After ten years we moved to California to start a new life. Mum finally got her dream job and is now a Journalist. She needed a change in her life to get over her depression. The last few years she travelled a lot and my brother took care of me. He is three years older than me and does everything to protect me. Even if it's not necessarily, but I love him.

Now I'm 15 and I'm living together with my brother in LA, California. Mum is coming home from Brazil where she revealed the destruction of the Rainforest. And PS.: Today is my 16th Birthday!! My best friends Christine and Jonas are planning a big suprise party for me (I shouldn't know but I know they are doing it). I'm so excited to see mum after a Long time again. I can't wait to listen to her stories and what she has experienced.

Emily's POV

Where is my brother again?

"Tyler? Where are you?"

"I'm upstairs. In my room."

"I can't wait to see mum again! It's been too long this time. I thought she would come back home a few months ago."

"I know. I'm also excited to see her again. Come on Emily. We need to go now or we will be late."

"Coming."

We are on our way to the airport to meet up with mum. To catch up we're having breakfast at her favourite cafe close to the Golden Gate Bridge.

"Tyler! Emily! I'm so happy to see you again! How are you? Did somehing interesting happen? Tell me everything."

"Mum! It's been too long. We're so happy you could make it here safely."

"Emily how have you been? Why didn't you call me more often?"

"Mum! I've missed you so much. Sorry I didn't call. I had too much to do for school."

"It's fine Emily. Now let's go and get something to eat or I'm starving."

While we walked down the road we talked about everything. Like in old times. After a few hours of eating and talking we drove home to let mum settle in.

"Tyler? Did you forget to lock the door?"

"Of course not Emily. I checked twice before we left to be sure it's locked."

"Stay here with mum. I'll go inside."

"Emily what's going on? Did something happen?"

"Mum try to stay calm. Tyler is looking if someone is inside."

"Mum could you come please? Emily stay out here where it's save."

"Okay. Please be careful."

"Don't worry Emily. Everything will be okay."

Inside the house.

"Is she outside?"

"Yeah, Christine. She will be suprised when she comes in."

"Are you all ready for the best birthday party ever?"

"YEAH!"

"Tyler, please get Emily inside while we all hide."

"Yes mum."

"Emily, you can come in. No one's inside."

"Oh thank god nothing bad happend."

When I walked through the door I couldn't believe my eyes. Everyone I know was here. They hid behind the furniture and jumped out and screamed "HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY!" I've never been so suprised and happy at the same time.

"Oh my god. You all planned this for me?! I don't know what to say. Thank you all for coming. It really means so much to me."

"Happy Birthday best friend!"

"Christine? Jonas? I should have known you guys were up to this. Thank you all so much. It's the best suprise I've had in years."

There is something I didn't tell you. My dad died on my 5th birthday, so I haven't celebrated it since that day. But today is different. All the people I loved are here to celebrate with me. They did it for me and I'm grateful to call them my best friends. And, of course, I couldn't ask for a better brother than Tyler. He's just an amazing human. He always tries to make me happy even if he isn't.

"Happy birthday little sis. I love you."

"Thank you Tyler. It's the my best birthday ever. And that just because of you and my best friends. I love you too big brother."

"Sweet sixteen Emily. I'm happy to be here with you on your special day."

"I'm glad you are here mum. I couldn't wish for a better present."

"Have fun today honey. You deserve it after what you have been through."

"Thanks mum."

"Mrs. Watkins?"

"Yes Christine?"

"Can we take Emily to a club to celebrate? I promise we won't be drinking. Tyler would come with us."

"Please mum! I would love that."

"Fine, you can go. But promise me no drinking."

"Thanks mum. I won't drink anything. Just alcohol free. Tyler, can you drive us there?"

"Yeah, sure. Let's go."

After what felt like an hour we finally arrived at the club. To be honest I was a little bit afraid. I've never been to a club before. Christine, Jonas and Tyler are with me, so there is nothing to be afraid of. We walked past the bouncer into the club. I needed a few Moments to process all the music and flashing lights.

"So Emily. What do you think?"

"I love it Tyler. It's amazing here. I love the music. Come on Christine let's dance."

"I love dancing. Let's go!" After hours of dancing and drinking (of course alcohol free drinks) we all were so exhausted and are ready to get home. We met up in front of the club and climbed into the car. Tyler drove and I sat in the passenger seat. Christine and Jonas are in the back. The drive home was quite but pieceful. The City looked Beautiful at night. The Lights are making it all even more beautiful.

"Tyler? There's a car driving on our lane. It's coming closer!"

"I can't dodge it. It's already too close. Hold on Emily."

"He's going to crash our car!"

"What's going on?"

"Christine! This car is going to hit us!" The lights of the other car are getting brighter and brighter until Tyler and I got completely blinded. I closed my eyes. And then, all I could hear was a loud *crash* and screaming. After that, everything went black.
