Chapter 4 - The Strange Light

Third person's POV

After hours of operation, Tyler's heart belonged now to Emily. The doctors and her mother hoped that she will wake up soon. Mrs. Watkins is sitting next to Emily. She thinks about everything that has happened. She is very proud of her son Tyler, who decided to sacrifice his life for his sister. Her thoughts were interrupted by the incoming doctor.

"Mrs. Watkins, I'm sorry about your loss. We all pray that Emily will make it at least. The operation was successful and she is stable. If her condition is not changing, she will wake up in a few hours. The risk that she might reject the heart is very low because the donor and she were related."

"Thank you so much Dr. Williams. For everything. Can I stay with her until she wakes up?"

"Yes, of course. But if her condition changes please push the button next to her bed and I will be here immediately."

"I will."

Mrs. Watkins sat next to her daughter telling her stories about her childhood where she and Tyler used to run away to a hidden place they found near a park. It was a hole in a tree where they could reach another garden with unique flowers. This place was so special to them that they still went there when they needed to escape reality. After three hours of storytelling, Emily's eyes slowly opened. She was weak and very confused.

"Emily, dear how are you feeling?"

"Mum? Where am I? What happened? I can't remember anything. Where are Tyler, Christine and Jonas?"

"You are in a hospital. I will tell you later what happened. Christine and Jonas were sent home yesterday. They are fine. Do you want me to call them?"

"Yes please. I want to hear their voices."

Mrs. Watkins dialed Christines number first. She picked up immedialetly.

"Mrs. Watkins. What a suprise. Is everything okay?"

"Emily woke up right now and wanted to talk to you." She gave Emily her phone.

"Hey Emily. I hope you're feeling better now. I know you will get well soon."

"Hi Christine. It's so good to hear your voice again. How are you?"

"I've been better. My head still hurts. How are you despite the circumstances."

"Actually, I'm feeling kinda great."

"Oh that's wonderful."

They talked for a little while. After she hung up she asked her if she could call Jonas. She dialed his number. After a few rings he picked up.

"Emily! How are you? Are you still in the hospital?"

"Hey Jonas. I'm still in the hospital." They talked for a few minutes. Emily turned to her mother. Something is still bothering her.

"Where is Tyler? Is he okay?" The doctor came in to check her vitals.

"Doctor, can you tell me where my brother is?"

"I'm afraid not. When you are stronger I or your mother will tell you."

"When you are saying it like that it sounds like he's gone." Mrs. Watkins and Dr. Williams shared a look.

"He ins't dead is he?"

"No no he's just not here." I little bit of relief came over me.

"Fine. Then tell me later."

"Hon. you need to rest now."

"Doctor, can mum stay overnight?"

"Sure. The bed next to you is free. She can sleep there. Emily, if you need anything push the button."
