Epilogue

Remy was dead. The timid, skittish silver wolf stabbed and bled out.

King, missing and injured, possibly dead. The hostile, arrogant black wolf left as soon as he saw that Violet was taken somewhere safe. Though I had no doubt that he was still alive and waiting for Violet to be discharged.

Violet, she was a different story. Caught between life and death, her heart stopping as if she didn't want to live. When she was stable and conscious, she refused to speak and barely ate her food.

Violet was gazing at the clouds when I entered, the only sign of acknowledgment to my presence was a twitch in her hand.

"We cannot help someone with no will to live." The doctor had said.

"Was it worth it?" I asked.

Violet made no move to glance my way, instead murmuring, "Maybe, maybe not."

"King's going to need someone."

"Why didn't you let me die?"

"As I said before, King needs someone. With you dead, he'd be alone and feral."

"Any other reason?" I remained silent. "I lied."

I immediately knew what she was referring to. "Yeah, I know."

"I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry too."

"Do you want to start over?" She hesitated. "If it's not too late."

I made my way over to her, reaching out and holding her hand. "I'd like that." Using my other hand, I tilted her face towards me and cupping her cheek, I softly kissed her. Pulling back, I rested my forehead against her's. "I don't think it's ever too late to be with you."

"That was cliché."

Smiling, I kissed her once more. "I love you."

"I love you too."
