"What happened?" I asked as soon as I entered the closed bar. Leo and Lily looked up from where they were sitting.

"Chase is dead," Leo answered.

I remember which one Chase was. Light brown fur with some white, emerald green eyes. The most playful out of Violet's wolves and the one who's hind legs were paralyzed. I still remember the day I found them too.

"How?"

"We don't know. All we know are what injuries he had."

"And what were those injuries?"

"Mangled legs, intestines hanging out," Lily finally spoke, voice quiet. "Eyes stabbed, and lower jaw ripped off. He was hanging in a tree by his legs."

Who would want to do that?

"Violet was the first to see him," Leo said.

Violet. Gods, Violet saw Chase like that.

"Where is she now?"

Leo gestured towards Violet's office. "She hasn't left."

"We tried to help but she told us to leave. We weren't originally going to do as she said, but King and Remy began to growl when we refused." Lily looked towards the shut door. "She's...she's shutting everyone out again. I think you might have more luck with her than us."

"Why me?"

Leo scoffed. "You were the one who found the wolves and gave them to her. You were there after she killed Vlad. You are the one she's attracted to. She would never hurt you. Us, well, at this point anything is possible."

I nodded. "Fine, I'll try to calm her down."

"That's all we ask. We can take it over from there so you can get back to your girlfriend."

"About that-"

"You two broke up?" Lily asked. "No matter, go calm her down enough so she's at least approachable."

Nodding I made my way towards her office, walking in and shutting the door behind me. It was dark, all the blinds shut and the office was a mess, her desk completely cleared and it's contents were littered on the floor.

Broken glass and blood.

Blood.

I quickly found Violet sitting on the floor, leaning against the desk, head lowered so her eyes weren't visible. Her hands were in plain view, cut up with bloody shards next to her.

I took a step forward, Remy intercepted me, a low growl rumbling in his throat.

"Go away."

I looked back at Violet, who still hadn't moved, but had spoken.

"No." I murmured.

"I wasn't asking." Her voice was hoarse no doubt from sobbing.

And that broke my heart.

The fact that Violet, who was usually composed, save for her mild temper, was slowly breaking.

"Neither was I." I gently pushed past Remy, making my way towards Violet. This time it was King who growled, baring his teeth in a snarl from where he was pressed up against Violet. I held his gaze, intelligent eyes reading my own. He looked away, leaving Violet's side and making his way to Remy's.

"Go." Violet's voice was breaking.

"No." I crouched next to her, taking her bloodied hands and kissing her knuckles. I moved the glass to the side before I sat down, setting her hands in my lap with my left hand on them before using my right hand to gently lift her head and turn it.
