A long ominous howl cut through the silence.
A few seconds later, several loud crashes were heard around us. Small cylinders came crashing against the glass windows and they emitted thick white smoke when they fell to the ground.
The bitter smell left a sweet tinge on my tongue. Louis and Liam were in front of me in a flash, already in their werewolf forms and growling in all directions in anticipation of an attack.
But what happened next surprised all of us. Werewolves began uncontrollably shifting all around us. It all started with their eyes. As soon as they inhaled the smoke, their eyes turned dark and their bodies shook.
Werewolves were shifting left and right. And they weren't just any wolves. From the moonstones that littered the floor, I could tell that the affected ones were rogues.
Werewolves who belonged to a pack were quick to realize what was happening. Some of them were fleeing, especially those who had human companions with them. Most were shifting as well and were joining Louis and Liam in surrounding me. I could see Harry, Zayn, and Dylan in the front lines.
Screams and snarls erupted all around us when the rogues began attacking anyone in their path. The smell of blood mixed in with the faint bitter smoke. Many of the wolves that encircled me broke rank to fend off the attacking werewolves. Liam and Louis were huddling closer next to me, making sire no rogue was attacking me.
I let out a devastated howl when I saw the first wolf fall dead. This was exactly what the Moon Goddess warned me about. It was what she was angry about.
The rogues continued attacking everyone, as if it was what they were only meant to do. Humans and a few weres continued to flee as well.
In the chaos, Mikhail lost hold of Cat. She fell to the ground and was nearly trampled over. One rogue attempted to snap at her feet but she scrambled away.
I was about to break away from Liam and Louis when Liam beat me to it. He ran over and fought the rogue that tried to attack Cat, giving Mikhail enough time to get to her.
Cat stared as Liam bit and crashed with the uncontrollable rogue, her eyes worried and scared. However, Mikhail pulled her away and forced her out to safety.
"Liam!" Cat's voice rang as Mikhail practically dragged her out.
Liam continued to fight rogue after rogue. His fur was getting stained with red splatters just like the other pack wolves.
But the crazed rogues kept on coming. It was slowly becoming apparent that there were a lot more rogue wolves present.
Louis nudged at me, pushing me to go.
I snarled at him. I was not about to leave and go to safety whilst this chaos was happening.
I needed this to stop before any more lives were wasted from this. I scanned the crowd, looking for the culprit.
I already had an idea who it was. Pluto was hard to find, I knew that. Even if he was in the same room I knew he would be masking his presence like the rest of his group of rogues. But if there was one thing I knew, it was that I alone could always feel whenever he was closeby.
The circle of wolves around me were quickly being forced to disperse as they fended off attacking rogues. Even Louis was forced to leave my side.
I dodged an attacking rogue, not wanting to harm anyone. I was in mid-dodge when I felt it. The hair on my nape stood on end so my eyes darted on my left. I immediately saw Pluto emerged from a dark corner.
However, I was distracted when the rogue attacked again. The wolf was about to crash into me when Harry appeared out if nowhere and rammed against the rogue.
