It had been a couple months since school had been out. Mrs. Lee had gotten two of her colleagues to help out. Not only did they know a lot about it, but they even taught their own Pokémon how to speak as well. One had a Lucario while the other had a Chatot. Sure one was only mimicking at times, but it actually spoke on its own without repeating words. Over the course of 6 months, Sonya hasn't seemed to get the hang of it. They even recommended letting Sonya listen to speech audios through headphones. Crazy as that sounded, you still gave it a shot. She's started making different sounds, but nothing that sounded close to a word. Unfortunately, you've been meeting up less often since school has started back up. Since then, you've only been meeting twice a week. You were to meet up with them tomorrow, but in the meantime, Mom had been homeschooling you. It had been a long process, hard at times too, but you've stayed caught up and have been doing alright. Since you didn't have any assignments or tests today, Mom had you study a chapter from different classes in your room. After finishing that, you closed the books, set them to the side, and walked downstairs.

Dad had returned from work for a time to relax and be with the family. Over the time of over a year, your mood had improved a little. You weren't depressed to the point of trying to kill yourself anymore, but you weren't out of the ditch just yet. Long walks have seemed to help with that, but surprisingly, so has night time. There were nights when you would just sit outside and look up at the stars as there was chirping in the air coming from Kricketot's. Sometimes, Sonya would get out of her Cherish Ball and find you outside. After trying for a month to keep her in, you just gave up, letting her come out whenever.

Getting back on track, you just stared outside the window for a while, just watching Pokémon fly by and the ocean crash against the rocks. After a while of just daydreaming, you turned back around, seeing Dad sitting in his recliner chair, Sonya with your wireless headphones on, and Mom cooking in the kitchen. Surprising enough, Sonya learned how to move through the playlists on your phone, and even figured out how to get to your pictures. Granted you hadn't taken a lot, but there were still some pictures ranging from Pastonia City to even the summit of Turnback Cave. You decided that it was time for a walk. After telling your parents you wouldn't go further than Veilstone City, you took Sonya with you, taking the headphones off her and letting them rest around your neck.

Walking along the path, trees and tall grass on both sides, you were slowly approaching Lake Valour. Sonya stayed beside you as grass was rustling, but nothing was jumping out to attack you or her. Going along the dirt path, you just looked to your left, then to the right, feeling a soft breeze as you just took in the scenery. You stopped in place, took a deep breath through your nose, then exhaled deeply as you looked around and saw all the green. You found a spot that seemed fairly shaded, walked over with Sonya, and sat down, just taking a minute from your walk to take in the view. Sonya looked at you for a second before circling around and sitting beside you. You reached up and started to scratch the back of her head. Dreams like the ones in the past with Sonya haven't happened since a couple of months, but over the time, she's been... how could you put it? She's been more comfortable being around. Not that she wasn't before, but it just wasn't as awkward enough anymore to find her sleeping on your bed like Umbreon was.

"Not a bad sight, huh Sonya?"

"Sol~." You couldn't get enough of Sonya's fur. Honestly, scratching her head benefited both you and her. It was a nice stress reliever, although you were questioning who liked it more. Sonya leaned into your hand for a second before starting to lay down, resting her front paws and head on your legs. As you kept scratching her head, she kept humming. You looked down at Sonya, smiling a little bit before looking in the distance and seeing Mt. Coronet. Even though it had been barely over a year since what happened there, it still felt like yesterday that everything happened. Tuning the thought out of your head, you were still filled with the question of why. You felt something flare up inside you, something irritating and feeling like it was burning your palms. This had happened ever since that confrontation with Dominick, but it always went away after a few seconds. This time though, it went from your palms to the back of your head. You stopped for a second, trying to get rid of it by scratching the back of your neck. Sonya looked up at you, seeing your discomfort. While you tried to get it to go away, you felt Sonya start licking your cheek, something she picked up from Umbreon. You no longer focused on the burning going on in the back of your head and instead focused on the blood rushing to your face.
