"Nooo!" Jo whined. "C'mon Jo, there's a big surgery today, don't you wanna see it?" "Mm, who's doing it?" "I don't know." "Well it can't be that big then." She shrugged. "Smart ass." Alex rolled his eyes as his wife. "Alex please I don't feel good." Alex frowned. "Why? What's wrong?" "I think it's just the flu, it's going around." "Who would have given it to you? Want me to beat them up?" He offered jokingly. "We work in a hospital Alex, it could have been literally anyone, and as sweet as your violent offer is we don't need you in jail, we need you in paediatrics treating sick children." Jo croaked out before erupting into a coughing fit. "Man that does sound rough. Want me to stay home and take care of you?" "I'm a doctor too Alex, I can take care of myself." Jo rolled her eyes with a small smile on her face. "I'm just trying to be a good husband." Alex raised his hands in defence. "You are a good husband, now go be a good doctor." Alex leaned down to kiss Jo but she moved away. "What?" "I'm sick, I don't want you to get sick." "It's just a kiss." "You're gonna be around kids Alex." "So? I won't be kissing the kids. That's weird." Jo laughed and shook her head, kissing his cheek. "Go to work, I'll see you later." Alex smiled and reluctantly went to the door. "I love you, call me if you need me, page me if it's urgent." "I love you too." "Promise me." "It's just the flu!" Jo defended hoarsely. "Hey, I said promise." Jo shook her head and laughed. "Okay fine I promise." "Rest, fluids-" "Alex." "Alright I'm going, I'm going!" He finally left and Jo collapsed back into the bed and curled in a ball under the covers. Maybe if she took a nap she'd feel better when she wake up. A couple hours later proved Jo wrong, she felt even worse. She groaned and got out of bed, going to the kitchen to get some water. She checked her phone, knowing her husband had probably texted her to see how she was feeling; he had. She replied honestly, admitting she felt worse than earlier but passed it off as the typical "it gets worse before it gets better" thing. She gulped down the water, she needed to stay hydrated, though it did nothing for her sore throat. She wondered if some fresh air may help, but when she saw there was snow outside she decided against it, getting cold wouldn't help her. She decided to just turn her laptop on and binge watch some Netflix. "Knock knock!" Someone opened the door, making Jo's head dart to the entrance. "Steph? What are you doing here?" "Karev said you got the flu, so, I come bearing lozenges, orange juice, cold and flu medicine and trashy rom coms." Steph sat on the bed. "You're a gem." "I know right?" "Hey don't get too close, you don't wanna catch this." "It's fine I've already had it." "So you gave this to me. Get out of my house." She joked. "Nope, not my fault, I stayed home last week while I had it. I am flu free." Jo groaned, laying back down. "Still kinda wish you felt my pain." "Oh I did." Steph chuckled and laid beside her best friend. "On Netflix I see. What're you watching?" "Orange is the New Black. My head hurts too much to concentrate on it though." "Aw my poor little Jo." "Shut up." She shoved her friend with a smile. "Want anything from my goody bag?" "Did you bring a sedative?" "Nope, that's illegal." "But my head hurts." She whined. "Are you hydrated enough?" Jo thought for a moment. "That's a no, I'll grab you some orange juice." "You don't have to stay here and take care of me, Alex will be back later, I'm sure you have better things to do." "I'd rather be here with you than doing charting at the hospital." Steph said as she put the orange juice in the fridge after pouring a glass out for her friend. "Understandable." Jo nodded, taking the glass from her. "Thanks." "You're welcome." Jo drank some of the juice before putting the glass on the table. "Alex said there was a big surgery today, did you see it?" "Nope, Shepherd had me in a surgery, shame, I mean I love neuro don't get me wrong but it was a double lung transplant, I can't believe I missed that." "Oof that sucks." Jo said before laying back down. "If you want to just rest then I can go." Steph offered. "I don't wanna kick you out." "Nope, I'm kicking myself out, that surgery was long anyway I need to get some shut eye myself." "Text me later?" "I will, rest up kid, stay hydrated." "Ugh you sound like Alex." Jo huffed as she watched her leave. She didn't know what time it was, or how long she'd been asleep, but she woke up to the sound of the door opening. "Hey, sorry did I wake you?" Jo shook her head, Alex would only feel bad. "How was work?" "Pretty normal day. How are you feeling?" "Like hell." Jo groaned, laying in Alex's lap when he sat on the bed. "Steph came over earlier, you have anything to do with that?" Alex looked at her guiltily. "I may have, look I'm sorry, she was on her way out and she wondered where you were, she suggested checking on you, I just didn't object." "You just can't stop being a doctor for one minute now can you?" Jo chuckled. "Guess not. So what did you do in here all day?" "Binge watch some Netflix, nap on and off, miss you." Alex smiled, taking off his shirt and pants, getting into bed properly. He pulled his wife closer and kissed her forehead. "Alex. You might get sick." "Ah so what? It's worth it, now come here." Jo relented and settled into his embrace. "Mm, now this is good medicine. I feel better already." "So it's not the flu, you're just lovesick." Alex teased her. "Shut up." Jo rolled her eyes with a smile on her face. "I missed you today too, that surgery was cool, I watched some of it from the gallery before I got paged by Robbins." "Double lung transplant, I heard." Jo replied, closing her eyes. "I'm that boring huh?" Alex smirked. "Of course not dummy, I'm just tired, fighting off the flu is tiring on the body you know doc." "Get some sleep babe." "Are you on call tonight?" "Nope, not tonight, I'm all yours. I'm not going anywhere." "I love you Alex Karev." Jo sighed into his chest and wrapped her arms around him, listening to his heartbeat, instantly feeling herself melt in relaxation. "I love you too Jo." He smiled and began stroking her bare arm to try and lull his wife to sleep. "Mm, that feels nice. Don't stop." "Try and get some sleep. I'll be here, I'll take care of you." "My knight in shining armor." She smiled, stroking his chest lovingly. "You always have been."
