A/n: I wrote this ages ago and decided to do some last minute edits. I would honestly marry Jack Kelly in a heartbeat soooooo...

It hadn't taken Jack long to figure out that he liked Y/n. But it had taken a very long time for Race to convince him to ask her out.
Jack and Y/n  met when they were 11 and quickly bonded over their love of complicated handshakes and watching sunrises.

Now, they were 17 and on vacation in Cape May, New Jersey. It was a dream come true, spending a week at the beach with their best friends. However Jack was having a bit of a tough time. Now Race had him convinced that confessing his feelings to Y/n out would be a good idea. But he couldn't. Not when she was sitting across the table from him smiling that dazzling smile.
It wasn't that Jack didn't want to. It was just that your friendship was so perfect he didn't want it all to come crashing down because of him. So here he was stuck pining after his best friend.

"Hey Jack do you know where the bathroom is?" She asked putting her hand on Jack's arm.
"Yeah do you want me to take you?" Jack replied.
"That would be great!" Y/n smiled and stood up.
"Don't blow this dude," Race whispered in Jack's ear. Jack could feel his cheeks beating up but he brushed it off.

The restaurant was located inside the hotel so the walk to the bathroom was only a minute or two away. The pair talked and laughed like normal but on the inside Jack was flipping out. She looked gorgeous in the moonlight and he had to stop himself from moving the hair that had fallen in front of her face. Y/n smiled at him and Jack felt his heart melt.
"Can you wait for me?" Y/n asked.
"Of course I'll be right here," Jack twisted his hands together and took a deep breath.

He couldn't go through with it, not when he had a perfectly good friendship right in front of him. But he also had a mess of feelings to deal with. Y/n walked out of the bathroom and Jack pushed those thoughts to the back of his mind.

"Y/n I have to tell you something."
This was his chance to make a move, or not.
"Uh, you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe."
He glanced down praying there would be some truth to his lie. But alas, the gods did not answer that prayer.
"Oh, it must've fallen off."
"Yeah, uh thanks for letting me know I guess." She started walking and Jack mentally facepalmed before following.
He could see the lights from the dance floor and decided it he wasn't going to go back to the restaurant with Y/n still oblivious to his feelings.

He grabbed her hand and spun her to face him.
Their faces were inches apart and Jack was hyper aware of her breath on his lips and how good it felt.
"Y/n, I have to tell you something," Jack whispered.
The sidewalk was empty and muffled music could be heard.
"What is it Jackie? Do I have more toilet paper on my shoe?" She looked up at him with a raised eyebrow.
"God, I love when you call me that," Jack breathed.
"Is that what you had to tell me?" She laughed.
"No. Um, I just-" Jack took a deep breath. "I really want to kiss you," He blurted out.
Y/n was silent for a moment and Jack's heart stopped.
"What's stopping you?"
He couldn't believe his ears.
"Apparently nothing."

Then he was connecting their lips and closing his eyes. His mind only had the capacity to process one thought at a time. Y/n was kissing him back. Her lips were unbelievably smooth. She tasted like chocolate. Her hands were tugging on his hair. Due to the fact that humans need air, they had to pull away.
"Wow." Y/n sighed.
"Yeah, wow." Jack was basically talking into her mouth, chasing her lips with his. He put his hands on her hips as Y/n's hands flew up to his hair again. She pulled harder than before and Jack groaned quietly. He could feel her smirk against his mouth. Jack backed away and looked at Y/n. Her pupils were wide and he could see that her lips were as swollen as his felt.
"As much as I love this, we should go back. I don't want them to start dancing without us." Y/n said smiling.
Jack could only nod in response.

They walked back in a slightly awkward silence. I mean, what do you say to your best friend that you just made out with? Y/n took Jack's hand and led him to the dance floor where there was a big group of people.

Jack was beyond exhausted after the first couple songs so he left Y/n with their friends and sat down next to Race.
"Sooooo," Race turned so he was facing Jack. "What happened."
"Not really- Nothing-" Jack sighed and decided he should tell the truth. "Okay we kissed."
"Seriously! No way dude!" Race patted his shoulder. "So what does that mean?"
"Um I honestly have no idea." Jack replied.
"C'mon Jack! You're usually so good at this." Jack raised a eyebrow questioningly.
"You know, like flirting and everything. You've  always been so smooth when it comes to that stuff. What makes Y/n any different?" Race said, exasperated.
"First of all Y/n is my best friend. Second, she's absolutely perfect. The way her shoulders arch, her collarbones, her eyes and-"Jack was cut short by Race's laughter.
"I hate to break it to you dude, but you're in love with her."
Jack smiled. "I know."
"Why are you smiling, isn't that what you were afraid of like fifteen minutes ago?"
Jack looked at Y/n on the dance floor and their eyes locked for a second. She smiled and waved to him.
"She makes me brave."
