Nico's P.O.V.I used to think having Leo around was enough to drive me mad; I was completely wrong. He had become very good friends with the green skin guy and cyborg, and together they were a trio of chaos. Loud laughter, obnoxious jokes, and inadequate table manners was what they seemed to share quite commonly.
"H-Hey Cy!" Beast Boy yelled to his friend, who was literally next to him.
"What!"
"Why couldn't the toilet paper cross the road?"
Cyborg stifled a laugh. "Why?"
"BECAUSE IT GOT STUCK IN A CRACK!"
I swear they laughed so hard people were beginning to give us dirty looks.
"Oh! Oh," Leo said, "I have one too! Why can't you hear the pterodactyl when it uses the bathroom?"
"Why?" Beast Boy began his pre-giggling phase.
"Because the pee is silent!"
More laughter erupted from the table.
At this point, everyone began to get tired from them. All of us looked so done from their nonsense, but we didn't want to stop them.
"C'mon Nico, they're having a lil bit of fun. Let them enjoy it," Percy whispered when I told him I wanted to stop them.
So instead I got up and pretended to head for the restroom. Once they were gone from my sight, I walked away from the pizza place and began to make way towards the street. I was never one to be around such extroverted people, so the one thing that usually calms me down are talking walks alone, just to clear my head. Pretty soon I passed by a library and was about to walk past it until I saw the same purple cloak I saw before.
Huh, I wonder why she's here...
Once I made my way inside, I saw her: sitting at a table holding a history book in her hands. She didn't seem to notice me as I walked to her table and sat in the chair next to her.
"I've seen you before. You're really quiet." Her voice was stable but powerful. She never took her eyes off the page.
"So are you, when you left your friends."
"I don't do fun. Never had it in me."
"I used to, but that's all in the past. I'm just like you now."
She closed the book in her hands and looked directly at my face. "What do you by used to?"
"It's a long story, and I don't want to get into it." She nodded her head as to understand what I meant by it.
"Usually I don't meet people like you. I'm Raven."
"Nico. So you're a hero?"
She let a tiny smile leave her face. "I don't look like one right? It's cool, I get that a lot. Sometimes people think I'm the bad guy."
"I mean, you're really dark and broody. No offense."
"Heh, none taken. Same goes to you."
I don't know why, but I was really enjoying talking to her, which was a first. She made me comfortable to be myself, and I seemed to be doing the same to her, too. I hadn't felt this way in a long time, maybe when I was much younger. We started to talk even more, and it was the first time in forever in which I didn't mind it.
"So why'd you join the team you're in now?"
She gazed in thought. It took her a little while to give me an answer. "Hm, I guess it's because I didn't really have the whole family aspect growing up. I hoped that joining the Teen Titans would give me what I missed all my childhood."
"You too also had a bad childhood?" She looked at me confused.
"I really did if we're being honest."
"Am I going insane, or do we have somewhat similar backgrounds?"
I got red in the face. "I mean, I can relate to you. But a lot of my friends back over there went through some tough things, too. A lot of those things we went through together. That's why I stayed with them. I guess I consider them as my family." Even though technically some of us actually are.
"It sounds like you have an amazing group of friends. You're a lucky guy Nico," Raven paused herself for a minute, "When I was younger, I wasn't such a lucky girl. Wherever I was, chaos was stirring. My dad...oof." She brought her hand up to her head. She suddenly looked really woozy and paler than usual. I thought she was going to collapse. She looked at me and shook her head, apologizing. "I don't usually have this happening to me."
"Don't apologize, you have nothing to be sorry of." A light blush appeared on her face.
"U-um, I think we should head back now. I'm pretty sure they're now fully aware of our disappearance." I agreed with her.
I had my hand reaching for the book she was reading to put it away; I did not want her moving too much prior to her episode of fatigue. As I was about to grab the book, she also reached out for it, too. Her sleeve rode up her wrist, and for a quick second I saw weird, red symbols marked all over. Her hand touched mine but she quickly recoiled it back. Her face shifted from ease to worry.
"Please Nico," she stood up from her seat, "Please don't anyone what you just saw. P-Promise me you won't."
"Should I be worried?"
"Just please, don't say anything. I beg you, please don't."
"Alright. I won't tell a single soul."
Raven looked away from me, now feeling super uncomfortable. "I'll meet you over there okay?" Before I could reply, she left in a hurry.
One thing I noticed from the first time I met Raven, was that she had a really strong aura around her. It didn't feel like the one a demigod usually has; if anything, hers was much stronger than mine or any of the others. But this aura felt bad, tense even. And when she got all fidgety, her presence got even more tense. I knew she was holding something important inside her head. That's where her power radiated the most.
Then I realized something even more: this same aura was the same one I felt when we first entered San Francisco. I tried to put some of the pieces together, but there were just so many missing parts. I left the library in suit of trying to leave that situation at bay, but there was just so much that I wanted to know. And if I knew, would it have been good, or bad?
