Lock up your daughters; we've got a choosy player

“Please come Holly” I almost had Joel begging on his knees for me to come to his football game after school.

“If you get on the floor and beg me, I will think about it” I was grinning like a lunatic, I really wanted him to beg me. That probably makes me a bad person, but I just can’t help it.

He looked at me again and then started to bend down. Oh my God. He’s actually getting down on his knees to beg me. I didn’t think he would actually do it.

He put his hands together and pushed them towards me, “Please come to my football game Holly, I beg of you,” he started in a mock English accent and I erupted with laughter. “Oh please fair maiden it would mean the world to me,” everyone was now looking at us, and I mean everyone. They had started to make a semicircle around us as we were next to my locker. Most people were in shock that the golden boy, Joel Oaks, was getting his knees dirty on the grimy floor of the hall, to beg a nobody like me to come to his football game. Honestly I can't blame them; it’s certainly quite a spectacle.

Blake pushed his way to the front and, like me, went into a fit of laughter. “You’re actually begging her?” he asked, while gasping for air.

I was leaning against the lockers now because my laughter was making me weak. “Oh please Holly” he begged and gave me the puppy dog eyes. I swear all of this laughing has given me abs; a stomach of steel.

Through my laughter I finally agreed.

He looked up at me intently like a five year old begging for candy, “Really?”

I leaned down to help him up, “Yes”. Once he was stood up I leaned against him while I attempted to control myself. Everyone was still staring but I couldn’t balance myself and Joel was holding me up.

Once I finished laughing at Joel we went to our homeroom. Everyone was talking about this game tonight apparently it was huge, something to do with a championships. I still didn’t really understand American football, but I guess I was going to have to make an effort.

The rest of the day went quickly and quietly to be honest. Everyone was excited for the game, and kept to themselves. However, when I was in the library a senior threw a book at the librarian and shouted "You have just been Facebooked!" that really made my day. The librarian chased after the boy until she tripped over her own feet and embarrassed herself even more than she already had.

When I informed Stella and Cory of the unfortunate events that led up to the extreme humiliation of the hapless librarian, Stella was crippled with laughter whereas Cory pitied the rueful woman. Bless her; she may never get over that sort of trauma.

When we arrived at the pitch most people were already seated and chanting. There were cheerleaders cheering on the field doing flips and other fancy stuff I would probably kill myself trying to do.

We made our way up the stalls to a place somewhere in the middle where we were seated with Stella’s huge collection of food. I do wonder how the girl is so thin; she probably has the same diet as a small elephant.

We waited another five minutes watching the cheerleaders perform before the players came out. They all huddled in two separate circles, and then swiftly took their positions on the field. Lucas was the captain of the football team and was shouting at his players words of encouragement- I think.
