max hates silence bc his parents would leave him alone in his house for weeks on end. because of his absent parents he knows how to knit (first episode), sew, make small meals, use a dishwasher, and use a washer n' dryer
also, because max wasn't used to noise (except for school) being constantly around it at camp when he was used to silence gave him headaches almost everyday until he got used to it
