max is insanely smart, but it doesn't show in school because he doesn't put in the effort. but this is literally canon, max retains information from all of david's lessons, which i imagine he's probably only half listening to. he has built very elaborate death-traps by himself, can hotwire a bus in the short amount of time it takes a grown adult to run, and can manipulate people twice his age, and his brain is underdeveloped at that. he's still a child y'all, wait til he glo's up, y'all gonna be cryin'
i'd say he's as smart as neil, maybe not in the same aspects, but he's still hella smart
