Chapter 10 - Time To Let Go
The first thing I thought when I woke up was, 'I'm going to Star Academy today'. Then I ran a hand through my hair, which was extremely frizzy, and sat up. I attempted to get out of bed without my crutches so I could get my crutches.
Big mistake.
Let's just say I ended up on the floor calling for help for about, 5 minutes then finally my mum saw me on the floor and passed me my crutches. Hear that? She didn't help me up, she passed my crutches, forcing me to help myself up.
Isn't that great?
Anyway, after getting off the floor I hobbled over to the bathroom and brushed my teeth. Then I awkwardly took a shower, (with my ankle and all) and after drying myself I wrapped a towel around myself and walked into my bedroom.
I went over to my wardrobe and took some random clothes. After dressing up I went downstairs. I walked into the kitchen to find Cece there looking as cute as ever with her red pigtails and those big brown eyes.
Then I looked at what she was doing. Was she making . . . Toast? I crept up behind her, (Okay, I tried my hardest to hobble quietly behind her) kept my hands on her shoulders and said in my best man voice, "Hey there, sugar."
I felt her stiffen and slowly turn around. When I saw her face I started laughing. She grinned when she saw it was me.
"Unique! Unique! Are you hungry? You better be hungry because I've made breakfast for you. It's toast with my own special touch." She said, winked and handed me a plate of toast.
No, it's a plate of leaves. My inner voice said.
I smiled at Cece and accepted the place of leav-toast then thought of something. "Cece, why have you made me breakfast?" I asked her. Then what she did next surprised me. Instead of beaming at me, she started crying. I crouched down and hugged her, asking her what was wrong.
"W-well, y-you're going t-t-to Boarding school n-now," She sniffed. "A-and I won't see you for a v-very long time and y-y-you won't be t-t-there to make f-funny jokes and b-be my awesome big sister!" She said, and started crying.
My eyes watered as I looked at my adorable sister. "Oh Cece, you don't have to cry! I won't be gone for that long; I'll visit you in the holidays. And I'll write letters with jokes and I'll ALWAYS be your awesome big sister!" I said, and smiled at her. She looked at me for a second, and then gave me a small smile.
"But Unique, I have a question to ask you." She said seriously, and stopped smiling. I nodded. She pulled me and my toast into the living room and we sat on the sofa.
"Well I remember when we were in New York and I was at school. In my class we were doing our family trees. I drew my tree and you and mummy, then showed it to my teacher. Then she asked where daddy was, and I said I don't know, and then she just shook her head and smiled at me sadly.
"Later that day when mummy came to pick me up I asked her where daddy was and she asked me why I was asking her so I told her about that family tree and all that. So we went back to my class and mummy had a talk with the teacher, and the next day when we were finishing off our family trees, the teacher came up to me and said I didn't need to draw daddy because I don't know where he is." She babbled, then gave me an inquisitive look. I gulped, knowing what was coming next.
"Unique, I have two questions. Where is daddy? What do you think mummy talked about with the teacher and why isn't daddy with us?" She asked. I looked away.
Should I tell her what happened? It would break her fragile heart.
But I'm still angry at dad for leaving us. I'm sure he didn't mean to.
