Chapter 17 — Exercise Can Cause A Life Of Crime
"Gosh, that teacher is annoying." I told Missy, and she shrugged.
"You'll get used to her. It's my third year having her." She replied, sighing.
"How long have you been here?" I asked.
"Four years." She said casually.
"What's it like here? I mean, is the food good?" I asked her and she laughed.
"The first thing you ask about is the food?" She giggled, but when she saw my expectant look she stopped giggling and sighed.
"Yes, the food is good."
"Well, I think I might get used to here." I joked, and Missy giggled.
"What's your next class?" I asked, looking at my timetable. Missy looked at hers.
"Oh, joy. Gym." She said sarcastically, and I smirked.
"So do I, but I don't have to do anything because of my ankle. Ha." I said and Missy smirked as well.
"Actually, you do. You need to be a sports leader or something, and your hands aren't injured so you can still throw and catch a ball." She told me, and I groaned.
"Ugh. In my school back at home if you had a runny nose you didn't have to do anything! I hate how here is so different. I miss New York." I whined, but said the last part in a whisper.
And it was true.
I missed waking up to the noise of vehicles honking because of traffic. I missed the busy streets and roads. I missed my friends from my old school, who I still hadn't been able to talk to since I arrived in California. I missed how beautiful New York was at night.
I missed my dad.
I missed my mum.
I missed Cece.
I missed everything.
"Hey, don't go all depressed and upset on me, missy!" Missy said, before laughing at what she said.
"Hey, that's my name!" She exclaimed, and then started laughing harder.
I shook my head and tried to keep and straight face, but her laughter was so contagious that I found myself laughing along with her. Soon we were two crazy chicks laughing hysterically in the nearly empty corridor.
Suddenly Missy cursed and straightened up with a panicked look on her face.
"Oh gosh. We need to go! We're late for gym and the teacher won't take it lightly, trust me, I know." She told me, and I got my crutches ready.
"Where's the gym?" I asked, and she smiled sheepishly, running a hand through her hair. But it got stuck halfway through because it was in long ringlets so she ended up in an awkward position with her hand stuck in her hair.
I burst out laughing, and she scowled at me, pulling me up and dragging me with her. I quickly stopped laughing and started using my crutches so I wouldn't fall over.
"Oh, and it's in the other building." She said, and my jaw dropped.
"We might as well ditch seeing how late we are, and going to be!" I exclaimed, and she sighed
"Trust me, I would but A) This is a Boarding School, so the main gates are always closed, and B) I promised my... Guardian that I would stay out of trouble. So that means no skipping." She explained, and this time I sighed.
