Emma looked around her room frantically. Lightning flashed across her room, illuminating her toys for a split second before a loud crack of thunder made her whimper and cower into her blankets. She gulped before slipping off her bed, grabbing her stuffed kitten and going over to her shut door. She remembered Jimin put her to bed, instead of Hoseok. The frown that was painted on her face got tighter. He never tucked her in right. Only Hoseok did. Only Hoseok knew where to put the pillows. Only Hoseok knew to turn on the night light that cast shadows of animals into the ceiling. Another thunderclap made Emma squeak before tears started streaming down her face. She slipped into the dark hallway outside her room and began to cry harder. "Mommy," she sobbed.

Little Emma took off down the hall before she came to the end. She pushed open the door in front of her and turned on the light. Only no one was in the bed. Not Mommy. Not Jimin. Not even some other "dad." Emma's lips trembled as she walked over to the bed, peering over to see if she had just overlooked her mom and her boyfriend. But no one was there. Only Jimin's jacket from earlier and her mom's hairbrush. Emma scurried over to the bathroom, abandoning her stuffed kitten by the bed, but no one was there either. Emma choked on her cries before she turned and ran downstairs.

Emma didn't know where her legs were carrying her. She didn't like that they wanted her to go outside into the dark, scary night alone. She didn't like the feeling of wet grass under her bare feet. She didn't like that her Sleeping Beauty nightgown was getting soaked from the rain. She didn't like trying to find the sidewalk outside her house using only the lightening as a light source. She didn't like how the thunder rattled her small body. She didn't like how the wind howled violently around her.

She didn't like that her mom wasn't home.

Emma ran down the sidewalk, her hair stringy and wet and her nightgown sticking to her like glue. Grass was all over her feet, but Emma didn't think of it as she ran through the night. She could see her neighbor's house after every few seconds when the lightening quickly cast a dull light over the world. And when Emma reached that certain house, she let out an awful cry before knocking as hard she could.
