The days seemed to creep by. Not that I'm complaining it's had been peaceful. Jess still seemed distant but at least she was talking to me.

Mama had a doctor's appointment today because she had a knot in her throat that was causing her to have trouble swallowing. We were all afraid that they were going to tell us it was cancer.
When mama told us it was just a goiter which is an enlarged thyroid gland we were all relieved. She would have to have surgery to remove which is always a risk but at least it wasn't cancer.
When she came home she had staples all the way across her neck. They had it covered with gauze but when she would change the gauze we could see them. She could do anything she wanted to as long as there was no heavy lifting. That seemed easy enough. Until.

Mama's friend, Robin, that lives up the road from us called and invited us for dinner. A man had moved in the house next to them and she wanted mama to meet him.
" Come on let's go." she said

When we got there we all ran into the house. We were excited to see her kids. Especially Jess who had a thing for her son Rockey.
Robin led mama into the house and we all eat dinner. Then she took mama next door to introduce  her to the man she called Winston. We all went outside and rode bikes while they talked.
It started getting dark and Mama told us to get off the bikes before someone got hurt. Instead of getting off the bikes we decided to take one of the bikes to the City Hall next door where there were lights.
We took turns riding around the building. It was my turn to ride and Jena said. " I bet I can beat you around the building."

" OK. I'll even give you a head start." I told her. She had FSP also but I have to give it to her she was fast.
"Go!" I yelled and she took off I waited until she was around the side and I went the opposite direction peddling as fast as I could. When I turned the corner there she was, I turned to try to miss her but she went the same way. I felt the bump and heard her scream.
Please be OK please be OK. I kept thinking over and over and I jumped off the bike and let it hit the ground. I ran back to Jena who was cradling her leg. It didn't look twisted or anything  but it was completely limp.
"Owww it hurts it hurts so bad!" She cried.
"Jess hurry." I cried. I was scared. I had hurt her. I hurt Jena how could I. Jena was the middle child and she was treated as such. She wasn't the oldest or the baby so she didn't feel special. What she didn't know was that made her special to me and Jess. She was weaker then we were and we always felt the need to protect her.
Yup did a great job this time Jayla.

" You did this. This is your fault. Look what u did to my poor baby leg!" She yelled at me. Oh yea she played hell with that choice of words later. Even now that we are grown she still hasn't lived that one down.

" Jess we have to carry her to mama." I said " Jena I'm so sorry, you know I'd never hurt you on purpose."

Jess picked Jena up but it hurt her and she pinched Jess so she dropped her.
" I'm not carrying her with her pinching." Jess said. I ran around the building yelling for mama. She came and checked on Jena but she couldn't pick her up. She called (b) dad and he and Lisa came.
" I told y'all to park the damn bike. It's to dark to riding." She said " you probably broke her damn leg."
" I'm so sorry Jena." I said again

" She definitely needs to go to the hospital." Daddy said. Lisa gently picked her up and They took her and Mama to the hospital. The rest of us went back home.

I sat there waiting for them to call and tell me how she was. It felt like I had waited forever. I felt so guilty everything I did was so stupid. Finally the phone rings in my hand.

" Hello" I said through tears

"It's broke. It broke the fibula and tibia. The two long bones in her leg. Broke them into." Mama said

"Can I talk to her?" I asked

It was silent for a second then I heard her pain filled voice.
" Hello."

"Hey, are you OK? I'm so sorry Jena please don't hate me." I said crying again.

" Jayla I don't hate you." She replied and I cried harder. "It's not your fault it was an accident. We both tried to miss each other and went the same way."

"Ya brilliant minds think alike." I told her

" Ya but now you have to wait on me." She said   " we are about to leave I'll see you in a few. I love you Jayla."

" Ok I'll take care of your poor baby leg. I love you too Jena see you when you get here." And I hung up. I finally felt like I could breathe again.

Jena's leg was casted up to her hip. So she got to camp out on the couch. She had to use a bed pan since she couldn't walk at all. Of course I got that duty. I guess it was only fair. She could lift herself I just had to put it under her then move and empty it when she was done. No big deal except the one time she started peeing before I got it all the way under her and almost peed on me.

" If you pee on me I'll pour it on you." I told her and she started laughing so hard she couldn't pee.

Dang what a month.
