"Hey! What are you doing here?" Alice half whispered half yelled as she risked a glance over to the man who was innocently browsing the titles. I had a feeling he was just in the store to get a look at Alice as he was absent-mindedly looking at the small adult book section part of the store. I let a grin wipe over my face as I thought about his actions.
"I thought you could use some company" I said and attempted to turn on the charm. It didn't seem too effective as she laughed at me and shook her head lightly. "Oh, and I brought you this" I said and presented an individual sprig of lavender. She put a hand to her chest and I couldn't help but notice the lavender was absent from her shirt.
"Oh my goodness, Oliver. How did you know I forgot my one today?" she asked and took it gently out of my hands.
"Just had an inkling I guess" I said and shyly put my hands behind my back. I looked down at the floor. I felt a sudden pang of warmth on the bottom of my cheek, dangerously close to my jaw. I realised somewhat too late that Alice had given me a little kiss. I looked up and gave her a goofy smile.
"Thank you Oliver" she said and I saw her fighting the temptation to bite her lip. She did it a lot when she was embarrassed. It was extremely cute and it made me like her all the more.
"Any time" I said and looked back over to the man who was having a sticky beak into our conversation.
"Hi there sir, can I help you in anyway?" I said and walked over to his side. I looked at the books in front of him.
"Oh, no. You know, just browsing" he said and cleared his throat.
"Of course. Take your time. I recommend this one. I read it a few weeks ago and I loved it" I said and gave him an obvious wink. He looked at the title and I thought I heard his pace maker stop.
"Uh, well, I was just... I was looking... I need... um" he babbled on and scratched his head. "I think I'm ok for now" he said and turned on his heel. He left the store as fast he possibly could without breaking into a run.
As soon as the door clunked shut, I burst out laughing. I was clutching my stomach when Alice walked over to me with an extremely confused look on her face.
"What happened?" she asked and I burst out into another fit of laughter. When I had gathered my wits enough to put together a coherent sentence, I looked up to see her looking at me with a freaked out look.
"He had been standing in front of the adult books section and I recommended a random book for him. He nearly had a heart attack! I think he was just in here to admire the view" I said and a grin bumped the smile off my face. She let her jaw drop and crossed her arms self-consciously.
"No! He was going to be my first customer of the day and now you've scared him off! And I doubt he was admiring the view. There is nothing to look at" she said and turned her back to me. She was heading to the door and I assumed she was going to go round the back to get in the office. I grabbed her arm lightly and stopped her.
"Well, I'm sure others would beg to differ" I said and smiled. She turned around to me and shook her head; brushing it off.
I walked over to the counter and jumped over the top. I motioned for Alice to follow and she did so without complaint. I smiled inwardly at her compliance. I gave her a smile and picked her up. I swooped her over the top in one swift movement and placed her down in front of me. This time, I didn't let go of her waist. I gazed down into the forest green eyes that were looking up into mine almost expectantly. As I was about to lean in, I was surprised when she slid her arms around my neck to make the first move herself. I gave her a smile and she returned it. She got up on tip toes and pecked me lightly on the lips. I was unsatisfied to say the least. I kissed her again softly, not wanting to push her away and felt the excitement build up in me. I was kissing Alice. Alice was letting me kiss her. I was being blown away and there was no hope of stopping my excitement.
