My throat burned as I felt water rush up my airway and out of my mouth. I kept my eyes closed but I could hear the sound of sirens ringing in my ears. My throat was dry and scratchy and I desperately needed a drink of water or something to ease the burn. I kept my eyes closed and my senses were coming back. I felt someone holding onto my arm. Voices were filling my ears and were deafening. I grimaced as a headache built up.

"Oliver. Oliver, are you ok? Can you hear me?" I heard a man's voice close to my face say. I felt his presence shift away from me slightly. "I'm not getting anything from him. He just coughed up the water and I thought I would get some response" he said to someone. I heard sobs and cries fill my ears. My eyes opened quickly and I regretted it due to the burst of sunlight that filled my vision. I didn't care. I knew those cries anywhere.

Alice.

"Oliver!" I heard her cry. I felt a thump to my right side and a hand was on my bare chest. I felt the sparks and knew it was her.

"Water" I croaked out quietly.

"Yeah, you fainted in the water and I was so scared. Oliver" she said and stopped. I felt her fall onto me and laid her head on my chest.

"No, I need water" I croaked with a small smile.

"Oh, sorry. I need water here" she shouted to no one in particular. I felt her hand behind my back and she sat me up slightly. I felt a bottle brought to my lips and I took it. I had my eyes closed and I took large gulps of the refreshing liquid. It ran down my sore, raw throat. It hurt but I knew it would do me good.

"Thanks" I said and handed the empty bottle out to her. She took it from me and handed it back to whoever had given it to her.

I opened my eyes slowly and saw Alice's face right in front of me. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying and I felt terrible for putting her through so much. She stroked my cheek and I laid my head back down on the warm sand. A paramedic came into view and I linked her to the ambulance nearby.

"Hi, I'm Sally. This is an unpatrolled beach so there were no life guards. Your friends called us and we got here. Just in time from what I can see. Can you swim?"

"Yeah" I said and then shook my head. I got up on my elbows and took a breath in. "I get panic attacks and I kind of faint when I go too far into the water. I have an extreme fear of sharks and drowning" I said feeling stupid and embarrassed. I looked down away from the lady and dug my fingers into the wet sand.

"So what were you doing in the water if you knew you would get a panic attack?" she pressed. I looked up at Alice and over to Marcus who was standing close by with a sad look on his face.

"I don't know. I was just being stupid" I said and returned my eyes to the golden sand. She looked over her shoulder and saw who I looked at and it clicked. She just smiled a little and nodded.

"I see. Look, it was pretty stupid to do that and I recommend you don't do it again" she said and took a quick glance at Alice who was holding onto my hand for dear life. I saw tears prick into her eyes once more when I stared at her for a moment. Sally was confused as to why I was jealous when Alice was obviously with me in a relationship of some sort.

"I won't do it again" I said and smiled at her. "Thanks"

"Oh well, you better thank Michael over there. He was the one who got you back" she said and looked at a guy who was standing by the ambulance. It was only then I realised I had gathered quite a crowd. There were at least twenty people standing around watching me and waiting to see if anything else happened.
