In front of me was a yellow Camaro. It immediately reminded me of the car out of transformers. It was the older version one, not the new one it transforms into. It was perfect. I walked over and ran my hand over the smooth coat of yellow that covered its surface.
"You aren't serious right?"
"Why wouldn't we be?" Greg asked and put an arm around Karen.
"Because this is far too much and I can't take it. I really appreciate the thought but I think I would be happy with a key chain with a toy version of this car on it"
"Don't be ridiculous" Greg said and chuckled a deep throaty laugh. "Oliver, I would be offended if you didn't take it"
"But Greg" I said but he held his hand up to stop me.
"I don't want to hear it. This is a gift and honestly I wanted to get you something more but Alice said it was out of the question. So, we settled for something in between" he said and held out the keys. He chucked them and I caught them with ease in my right hand in the air.
"You don't know how much this means to me Greg" I said and walked over to him. I embraced him in a hug and patted his back. I brought Karen into a hug and thanked her as well.
"It's nothing really. Now, go take it for a spin" Greg said and pushed me towards the car. I grinned and spun the keys around my finger.
"Come on Alice, I don't have all day" I teased and tapped my wrist as if I was wearing a watch.
"I'm coming" she said and I opened the door for her. I ran around to the right side and got in. I put the key in and turned on the ignition. It revved to life and I could feel myself vibrating from the engine. I grinned and looked at Alice.
"Don't crash the thing though!" Greg called as I pulled out of the garage. I waved to him and sped down the street. The car ran beautifully.
"This is great!" I said and looked to Alice.
"You like it?"
"Love it" I said and smiled at her.
We did a few laps of the block and drove back. Greg, Karen, Jake and Hannah were all waiting.
"How was it?"
"Magical" I said to Greg who laughed and put a hand on my back.
"I'm glad you like it. You know, Alice was telling me how you're a man who's good with their hands. Is that true?"
"Oh I don't know. I was good at my woodwork class in school but I was nothing special"
"Well, I just so happen to own a company that makes furniture. I could get you a placement there if you'd like"
"Really?"
"Well, we'll have to see your ability and then they'll let me know if you've got what it takes"
"Wow, this is so much Greg. I don't know what to say"
"You can say thank you" he laughed. I thanked him and walked with them to the door.
We enjoyed the rest of the day with toasts and laughter mixed in with a fair bit of alcohol. Alice was my designated driver and took me home in her car and said we would come back to get my car in the morning. I was too inebriated to care.
