Third POV.
Ruth, Elena and Caroline were walking to school. Bonnie was nowhere to be seen, and it was all because of the argument she had with Caroline. "Have you even talked to Bonnie?" Elena asked, breaking the awkward silence between the trio.
"No, I'm mad at her. She needs to make the first move." Both sisters rolled their eyes simultaneously.
"Be the bigger person." Caroline scoffed.
"Impossible in her presence."
"What the hell even happened between you two, anyway?" Ruth asked, which cause Caroline to sigh at the memory.
"She's a thief, that's why. I gave her my necklace, and she refuses to give it back. It's a matter of principle." Ruth squinted in confusion.
"But, how? You gav-" Ruth was cut off by Elena shoving her hand on her mouth. Elena coughed and spoke after seeing Caroline's glare.
"All right. Well, we tried. We are officially out of it." Elena side glance Ruth, to which she nodded. Ruth stuck out her tongue and licked Elena's hand. Elena rolled her eyes and wiped her hand on Ruth's bare face. "We both know that that would not have worked, Rue." Ruth rolled her eyes and nodded.
"Good. Your turn. Where's Stefan? Have you talked to him?" Elena winced, as did Ruth.
"He's avoiding her." Ruth informed their quirky best friend.
"Why?"
Elena hesitates, her minds drawn a blank. Ruth rolls her eyes and speaks up once again. "He's got major daddy issues, Care. He realised Elena just doesn't cut it anymore." Elena and Caroline giggle, while Elena swats at her sister. Elena then proceeds to tell Caroline that it's complicated. Before Caroline can ask anything else, the bell rings. The three say bye and walk to their lessons.
Elena and Ruth walk over to their seats and wait for the lesson to start. Ruth sees Bonnie and mouths to her, asking if she's okay. She shrugs, then their new history teacher speaks. "Good Morning everyone. Alrighty."
The mystery man speaks, and Ruth looks at his back. He had a nice back. He writes his name on the board and turns around. Ruth takes in all his features and nearly melts. He had light brown hair and a stubble that lays across his pronounced jaw. His face is rugged, and his eyes are a nice blue. Not beautiful, like Damon's, but she knew she could still get lost in them if she tried.
"Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origins. My family emigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather I will never be able to thank enough. You'll probably want to pronounce "Ala-ric" but it's "Al-a-ric," okay? So, you can call me Rick. I'm your new history teacher." She nodded and turned to Bonnie and pretended to fan herself, the girl just giggled and focused on the lesson.
Bonnie, Elena and Ruth were talking, Bonnie was explaining to them what happened in her nightmare. "And then, I ended up at the remains of the old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods."
"And you always see your ancestor Emily?" Elena asked Bonnie, while she hummed and nodded.
"Do you believe in ghosts?" She asks the two, Ruth instantly pipes up.
"Definitely." Bonnie smiles slightly, Ruth always believed in what Bonnie told her. She had this childish sense to her where she believed in many things. But Bonnie loved it, Ruth was her truest believer.
"Because i think I'm being haunted."
"I don't get it. Why Emily?" Elena asked in confusion. Ruth looked to Bonnie in question and she spoke.
"Grams said she was a powerful witch back in the Civil War days, and that this medallion was hers. A witch's talisman."
"And it all started when you got the necklace?"
"I think she's using it to communicate with me."
"Creepy. But what does Grams say about it?" Ruth asks Bonnie.
"I can't call her. She's gonna tell me to embrace it. I don't want to embrace it, I want it to stop."
Bonnie was giving the two sisters a lift home, while informing them of what happened with Damon. She was scared. "He's bad news, guys. He really scared me." Elena nodded while Ruth sighed, she hated the fact the Bonnie was right. She did kind of like Damon, eventhough he's done some shitty things. For some reason she just couldn't shake him off, he was like a persistent mosquito.
"You need to stay as far away from Damon as possible."
"I'm trying! He just keeps showing up."
"He's like Crabs, annoying and kind of funny." Bonnie looked to Ruth and raised an eyebrow.
"How is Crabs funny?" Ruth giggled and explained.
"If you ever got Crabs, Bon Bon, I would cry laughing."
"So, you compared him to and STD, while also complimenting him. And then you tried to explain why Crabs are funny, yet it didn't work, at all." Ruth chortled while Elena cut in.
"Guys, lets stop talking about Crabs. And Bonnie, I don't want you to be alone. You're sleeping at our place tonight, we can make a whole night out of it." Ruth pouted, but nodded in excitement. Bonnie nodded and pulled over. She got out of the car and the sisters followed her.
"Bon Bon?" Bonnie ignored Ruth, she was focusing on getting rid of the necklace. She ripped it off her neck and threw it into a field. They watched it soar, until it landed somewhere in the grass.
"Are you okay?"
"Now I am. All my problems were because of that thing. I can't believe I didn't do that sooner." Bonnie smiled in relief.
"What's your Grams gonna say?"
"Grams isn't the one being haunted by a hundred and fifty-year-old ghost, is she?"
"Nope. Let's go!" Ruth shouted as she ran back to the car.
While Elena was playing hostess for Caroline and Bonnie, Ruth was going to call her mother. She needed to talk more about New York, just to make sure it was the best idea. So she pressed call and put it to her ear.
"Hello?"
