Demi woke you up at four am this morning soaked with sweat. She's been running a high fever all day and you're only growing more and more concerned. You've tried everything you could think of to help her; fever medicine, a cold cloth on her forehead, she's been drinking plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and she's been resting as much as possible - and still, nothing seems to be helping.
You hate seeing her feel so sick. It seemed like she was only feeling more miserable and you were feeling helpless. You told her that if it continues to get worse you're taking her to the hospital, but one last idea came to your mind before it came down to doing that - a phone call to your mom. Surely if anyone knew how to bring down a fever, it was a parent.
You put your phone to your ear, feeling a little relieved when you heard your mom's cheery voice on the phone. "Mom? I need some advice. Demi's been running a high fever for hours now. She's been up since four am and it seems like it's only climbing. Do you have any ideas of what I could do to help bring it down? I've tried medicine and lots of water and a cold cloth on her forehead but nothing's helping." You practically face-palmed yourself when your mom suggested a quick remedy that you never even thought of - a cold bath. You thanked her before ending the call and running inside the bathroom to fill the bathtub up with cold water.
Once it was full you walked back into the bedroom and helped Demi inside the bathroom. You helped peel off her clothes that were sticking to her sweaty body before helping her in the bathtub. She winced at first, the cold water on her hot skin made it burn a little but once she adjusted to the water it started to help her. You grabbed a cup from the sink and filled it up with some water in the tub before pouring it over her shoulders. Demi sighed as she rested her head against the wall. You put your hand on her forehead, relief washing over you when you felt that her fever was starting to go down. "You okay baby?" You whispered, pressing your lips to her now much cooler shoulder blade before pouring more cold water over her body. "Yeah. Feeling better. Please keep doing that." The last sentence turned into a mumble as she started to fall asleep, feeling so much more relaxed now.
You let her fall asleep for a little while as her fever got lower and lower until it was pretty much gone. You woke her up about forty-five minutes later. "Demi? Baby let's get you to bed. Your fever is so much better now." She opened her eyes and gave you a small smile before grabbing your hand and steeping out of the water. You wrapped the towel around her and started to dry off her wet skin, stopping when she grabbed your wrist. "Hey. Thank you for taking such good care of me. Don't know what I'd do without you, princess." She pressed her lips to yours for a sweet kiss. You pulled away a few seconds later, tucking a strand of her damp hair behind her ear. "Always, my love. Now let's get you dressed and into bed."
She changed into some shorts and a t-shirt before laying in bed, pulling you against her chest when you did the same. "You need to get some sleep too. You've been taking care of me since I woke up this morning and you've been up ever since. I'm feeling much better now, all thanks to you. So you get some sleep too, baby girl. I love you." You kissed her cheek and laid your head on her shoulder. "I'm happy to hear that. I love you too Demi." You whispered before you both fell asleep, now feeling worry free and content in your girlfriends arms.
