"He's really good at hiding in those woods, Ms. Maria. We can't even keep track of him for too long."

Krissy listened intently as she folded clothing in brown leather chair she always sat in Maria's office. The man speaking was a wide man with greasy brown hair and a thin mustache. He was talking about Bryce, she couldn't help but closely pay attention.

"You're telling me, in four days, not one of you idiots have been able to capture a seventeen year old boy?" Maria asked lightly, as if she couldn't have cared less. The woman only looked up once, cutting her gaze to Krissy, who was sure to keep her face neutral. Hoping not to show any signs of worry or care, and especially not fear. Fear for Bryce. Maria had been putting in a lot of work to taint her against Bryce. Worse of all, she couldn't honestly say it wasn't working.

That picture Maria had showed her the day she dropped the bombshell about her cheating boyfriend wasn't the only photo Maria had. No, the woman was sure to show her every last photo she had of Bryce smiling at another girl in a way he had never smiled at her before.

Those pictures made her insides ache. They made her feel as if she was falling down a hole and never expecting to hit the bottom. Bryce loved this girl, not her. He had let her walk around looking so so dumb thinking he loved her. She imagined she was the butt of a lot of jokes within their circle of friends. She imagined some of them even pitied her.

None of that should have mattered now...but it did. Somehow it did because she couldn't bring herself to look Bryce in the eye anymore. She would even say she was almost relieved when Maria had took her from the room they had shared just to escape the feelings.

Sometimes after speaking with Maria, she would feel angry. Maria spoke in circles and everything she said even if it was utter shit at a layer of truth, after speaking to her Krissy was always left feeling manipulated and confused.

She was confused, worried and confused. But obviously it was nothing when compared with what Bryce was going through and she was sure to remind herself of that constantly. Bryce had hurt her but he didn't deserve this, no one did.

"He's like a fucking squirrel," he complained, "no one can keep up with him and no one can find his ass when he hides."

"Slow him down then," Maria suggested with a shrug.

The man raised an eyebrow. "Slow him down?" He loudly repeated.

A glare was sent his way because of his volume by Maria. "Yes," her gaze locked with Krissy's, "shoot him."

Krissy couldn't hold her gasp in, let alone fix her face into anything other then a look of horror. Maria gently shook her head at her seemingly disappointed.

Bryce dropped on the muddy bank of the man-made stream, his dirty hands sinking into the cool water before bringing his cupped hands to his lips and greedily drinking the water. He had tried avoiding the water sources, knowing those would be the first places they would look for him at, but he was unable to stay away when his thirst grew too strong, so strong, his mouth had began to hurt and he had began to see double.

It was day five. It was almost over.

His stomach grumbled unhappily with him, unsatisfied with the water. He climbed on his feet after a few more gulps of water and stumbled to a rock. Moving it aside, he grasped both squirming grubs underneath and shoved both into his mouth without giving it too much thought. He gagged but forced himself to swallow.

He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and listened. He calmed his breathing the best he could and he listened.

Nothing. No voices, no movement, only singing birds someplace in the trees around him. He was safe... for now. He fell back onto his behind and crawled to the stream again, allowing more water down his parched throat.
