"I'm sure she's fine." Granny said setting a cup of tea in front of him, her own clasped in her old worn hands. "She's with that man, right? The one you don't really like but who she talks so highly of? I doubt anything bad happened to her with him around." Shoura squinted down at his tea, his headache growing and growing. He rubbed his brow roughly. Granny flipped off the overhead light, allowing the one over the oven to be the only one to shine. "Drink the tea, dumb boy, it'll help with your headache...unlike worrying." She grumbled the last part.
Shoura heard her of course. "He's the one I'm worried has hurt her." He didn't drink the tea but he did lower his hand from his face. "She's never been gone with him this long before." He squinted at the time on the oven, but he could barely see the oven itself without his glasses. He knew it was late though.
"She's with the man who kept her safe before you, I think you have nothing to worry about." She gave him a long look. "Or is it something other than her safety you're worrying about when it comes to our sweet Krissy spending so much time with this man?" She smiled. "Have you told her how you feel?"
Shoura whined dramatically and kicked his legs like a toddler. "You're embarrassing me, granny!" He groaned. " 'Have you told her how you feel, dearie'" He mocked her voice as if she sounded like an evil witch. "It's too late for this, woman!"
She used the spoon she was using to stir her tea to smack the back of his hand. He winced and hugged his hand to him as he gave the woman a pout. "Stop acting like a child or I will spank you like one!" Shoura laughed. "Or I could have Krissy do it when she gets back, I'm sure you'd like that." She said with a smug grin as she took a sip of her tea.
Shoura's brow quirked. He took a sip of his own tea. "Why granny, what do you know about that? I've always wondered those strange noises coming from yours and Papap's ro-"
Granny flung the spoon at him and he dodged with a laugh. "You started it!" He yelled childishly with glee as it clattered to the ground behind him. He was just about to pick at the old woman some more when his personal phone started to buzz in the pocket of his sweats. The thought that it was Krissy popped into his mind right away, making him fish it out of his pocket quickly. He grinned when he caught sight of the picture he had taken of her mid yell (yelling at him for doing something 'annoying') light up his phone.
"Not to be that guy but," he answered, "you do realize there is a mandatory bedtime in this house, young lady?" He grinned harder at Granny who rolled her eyes at him.
"Sorry," her voice made him straighten up on the bar stool, noting something wasn't right quickly. "I...I...I'm walking up to the door right now. I don't have a key or anything and I knew everyone would be asleep. Ju-just can you let me in?"
"What's wrong?" He was already heading towards the front door. "Krissy...!"
"I'll see you in a second." Her voice wobbled all over the place.
He hung up first because he was already swinging his front door open.
The sight of her made his breath catch in his throat.
Krissy stood on his porch right in front of the door and her eyes widened at his sudden appearance though she clearly had known he was coming. The wide eyes were filled with tears and a bit bloodshot in that way which suggested someone had been crying a lot. On her cheek was a nasty split, caked with dried blood. In her recently pressed hair a couple of little twigs and tiny bits of leaves he had to squint to see. Her clothes were rumbled and different from the ones she had left in.
