Bryce moved his head away from the dark green sweater being held up against his cheek.

"This is going to be such a nice color on you." Kate gushed happily. She took a step back and admired the sweater she had purchased for him.

Bryce stared at her face, he could conjure up very little emotion for what he was about to do. He tried, he really did. Kate had to go, for Krissy. Just how she had to once stay for Krissy.

Kate hummed as she turned away from him and moved over to the other shopping bags littering the floor. The living room was bathed in warm late afternoon light. Krissy would be waking up from her nap soon and he knew Kate could not be here.

She seemed in a good mood, Kate did. She had kissed him hard on her return and grabbed his hand when he had met her at the door and drug him into his living room, going on and on about her day. He would ruin that and he did feel bad. He thinks... he wasn't so in tune with his emotions lately.

"I think this should end."

Kate stopped her fumbling through the shopping bags, and her whole body stilling. The thin shoulders underneath the yellow dress she was wearing grew ridged. A beat of silence passed between them before she turned to him with a strained, confused smile on her face.

"What are you talking about, Bryce?" Her eyes roamed over his face ad her expression grew more tense. "This isn't funny, Bryce!"

He hesitated before he spoke again. "I wouldn't make this type of joke, Kate. You know that."

Her eyes grew wide and she very subtly shook her head. She opened her mouth and closed it before opening it once again. "Why?" She finally managed, voice choked.

Bryce weighed his words carefully for a couple of reasons. One being, he wasn't sure if he wanted Kate to know Krissy was still alive. Two being to spare the blonde's feelings, though he cared very little for them.

He frowned slightly, not at the tears already dripping form Kate's eyes, but his own thoughts. The name Mostro really did fit him now, he realized. "I am unable to love you." He said, robot sounding. He winced internally, knowing his words hadn't been as 'kind' as he had been attempting to make them.

Kate shook her head once again. "Bryce...I don't understand. Did I do something wrong? I..." She seemed to search for words. For understanding. "I thought we had a good thing? You...you asked me to move in!"

"I can pay for your lodging until you can find a better option. I know you said you hated living in the house you shared with your grandfather all alone. I can-"

"No!" She screamed. "That's not the point!" She shouted. "Why are you doing this? I've been trying so hard to be everything you want and need! I don't give you much trouble, do I? I allow you your space! I roll with your mood swings and...and... help me understand, Bryce. Because I don't fucking get it!" His gaze flickered to the living room's opening, concerned Kate's screaming would wake Krissy. She seemed to noticed his adverted attention. She looked hurt at first before that turned to rage. "Who is it?" she demanded. "Who is it? Who...Who is this person that's so much better than I am?"

Bryce didn't answer those questions. "I apologize, Kate, but no amount of talking is going to change this."

She stared at him her breathing quick. "You're a bastard," she spat.
