Tears rolled to the floor as a small black fox girl cried. Her short sliver hair was everywhere, somewhat matted with her own blood. The figure that stood above her kicked her in the stomach, making her grip it. The figure only laughed.

"Stop it!" a shivering fox yelled meekly from the corner. She used to be a brilliant bright yellow, but all the woman was now is dirty and bloody. Like the little fox, her sky blue hair was matted with blood.

"Never," the figure laughed. Slowly, he stepped out into the moonlight that shone faintly through the window. It was a black hedgehog with dark blue stripes on his quills. His eyes shone a sinister green, and his pupils were like a snake's.

"She's just a child," the yellow fox said as she cried.

"Yes Sunny, she is just a child," the hedgehog laughed. Sunny whimpered as he came closer. "And you are just in the way now."

The little fox gathered all her strength together. Slowly, she staggered to her feet, and was able to walk to Sunny and into her arms.

The hedgehog came closer and the little girl squeaked, "Leave mommy alone!"

"Shush Luna," the hedgehog said as he pulls her apart from her mother. Luna screamed out in disapproval, but the hedgehog just tossed the little fox aside.

He picked up Sunny by the neck and pressed her against the wall. She gasped for air, but was able to cough out, "Please... let's make... a ... deal Mephiles."

The hedgehog's ears perked up at that sound. Mephiles slowly let her down, but still kept a grip on her neck. "What kind of deal Sunny," he hissed in her ear.

She sighed, "I know what you're planning on doing... you can go ahead and kill me... but don't kill Luna."

He pondered the thought for a split second. Then, he smiled. "Sunny, I wouldn't dream of killing her. But as for you..." he whispers in his ear, "That's happing right..." he chokes her again, "Now."

Luna sat there and watched all that was happening in horror. She was frozen to the spot. Her icy blue eyes were locked on the scene. It was all she could do. The pain she was experience didn't matter anymore -nothing much mattered as Luna watched.

Suddenly, Sunny became limp in Mephiles' hands and he dropped her to the floor. Sunny's icy blue eyes were still opened, yet they are now glassy as she stared off into nothingness. Sunny the Fox was dead.

Luna screamed out, somehow being able to get up. She ran over to Mephiles and started to punch his legs with her tiny fists.

The hedgehog just laughs as he pulls her up in his arms, pressing down on the pressure point on her shoulder. Ten seconds later, the little fox girl passed out in his arms.

Mephiles smirked as he walked out of the house. Once outside, he turned back around to face it. The house was small and simple, blending in nicely with the small suburb.

"Hmmm... I wonder if I'll ever miss this place?" he says to himself. Then, he shakes his head and laughs as he sends a ball of energy at the small house, making it burst into flames. "No... I won't."

He stands there for a moment, watching as the red flames eat the house. They started to spread like wild fire after a few seconds, lighting the next house on fire and soon the entire neighborhood was in flames.

Once Mephiles heard the police and fire sirens, he pulled out of his quills a red emerald, and using chaos control, teleports himself to another place.

Now him and Luna were in a dark forest, and Mephiles starts to run. Not long after, they ended up at a canyon, where a few guards were keeping watch.

Some of the younger, more newer guards aimed their guns at Mephiles, but the more experience ones smacked them on the back of their heads. Mephiles smiled, and then quickly snapped when the guards kept looking at him, "Aren't you all working?!"

The guards all jump before quickly turning away and watching the borders again. Luna yawned in his arms, so he kept on moving towards the base.

Inside, he walked through the labyrinth of halls as easily as running through a barren desert. As guards and others passed by, they would bow slightly. Some said a greeting of some sort, but most didn't even speak and kept right on moving, for they feared Mephiles worst then anything.

Plus, they were dumbfounded by him carrying the little girl. Everyone knew where he lived and who with, but Sunny and Luna never came to visit. Most figured they didn't know of his second life. Well, this where he is now, was his first life, making the life with Sunny and Luna his second.

Soon, the hedgehog with the fox-girl in his arms were at a door. He opened it, revealing a small, broom closet sized room that barley fit the bed and still had walking space.

"Welcome home," he said to the little girl who looked relatively peaceful considering the scene she had just witnessed. He quickly tucked her into the bed before he left, locking the door behind him.

A/N

Heyy!

So, this is another Sonic fanfiction that I'm creating with the partial help of @RosezTheWolf. This one is not related to the Pure Light in the Pitch Dark series, and I'm pretty sure that I won't even include my other OC's. Maybe I will. I just haven't decided yet.

DISCLAIMER

when they show up, please note that I DO NOT own any of the Sonic characters. Like in this prolog, I don't own Mephiles. I do own every other character featured in this part right here:D including all those guards:D except the one over there, who was in a guard in one of the comic books XD

Also, the title of the book comes from Kelly Clarkson's song Breakaway. It'll make sense further on. And yes, I don't own the song, but I wish I did.

Anyway! Have a great day/night!:D

P.S this is the edited version from the original. Wattpad mixed up the old one's chapters >.< so I hope all u new readers enjoy it and old readers, welcome back!:D
