chapter seven The Night After
The man turned around to look at her. He felt embarrassed. "Hello."
Ray took a step out onto the porch and Bucky realized she was in her pajamas. And oversized flannel that fell to her midthigh. Bucky didn't look at her legs.
"Hey, what's up?"
"I uh, I need help. If you don't mind."
Ray looked at him. "With...?"
"I would like to clean. I think the shower is broken and my clothes are dirty but I..." He trailed off. He sounded stupid.
But Ray knew what he meant. The shower in the barn wasn't the most private. And he couldn't wash his clothes because he didn't have any other. He didn't want anyone to see his arm.
"You can use the shower here. And I can wash your clothes for you." Ray told him.
Bucky nodded and walked up the porch steps. Ray shut the door behind him and went into the kitchen. "Are you hungry?" Bucky didn't say anything but the look on his face gave her an answer. "I'll get you set up for the shower and then I can get you something to eat while we wash your clothes."
"Thank you." He said quietly.
Ray grabbed her sandwich and led Bucky up the wood stairs to the second floor of the house. Her bedroom door was still open and once Bucky was in, she shut it behind him.
Bucky looked around the room, feeling to tall and large to be in it. It was very small, though it fit Ray very well. It smelt like her too, Bucky decided. He liked the smell.
"Okay, I can get you something of Cory's. Though he may be a bit too small for you." Ray said as she looked at him. She never noticed how broad shouldered he was. And tall.
She cleared her throat. "This might fit you. It's clean, I only put it on after my shower today. It belonged to my grandpa when he was younger. When he was more built, like, well you."
Bucky realized she was talking about the shirt she was wearing. "I do not want to take your nightgown."
Ray laughed softly. "I have others. I'm sure I can get you some sweatpants. As for... um, I don't have anything for under the sweatpants."
Bucky didn't know what she meant for a second. But when he realized his cheeks flushed. "The sweatpants are fine. Thank you."
Ray nodded and told him to follow her. She set up the shower for him and gave him towels. "I'll go get you the clothes. The hot water runs out quickly so enjoy it while you can." Ray flashed a smile to the man.
