chapter seventeen Vienna
When Ray woke up hours later, she was held captive in a small room. Her head was pounding from where she had been hit. Black spots filled her vision. There was blood on the back of her neck and dried under her nose. She was still dressed in an oversized shirt that belonged to Bucky, and pajama shorts. She wasn't wearing shoes.
Her hand was cuffed to one of the pipes that led to the ceiling. And no matter how hard she tried to pull nothing gave way. Her arm hurt like hell.
Then she noticed the Winter Solider strapped into a chair in front of her. She could see blood on the side of his face and deep bruises on his jaw and under his eye.
"Bucky?" She said quietly.
"He does not know who you are." The same Russian man entered the room, alongside one of his assistants.
"What did you do to him?" Ray asked.
"Nothing yet." Zemo said. "Unfortunately even after the winter soldier came out to play, he still had trouble following orders. My only mistake was assuming that we could make you one of him. He did not like that."
Ray shook her head. She was scared and confused. She wished more than anything they were back home. She felt like she was dreaming.
"Get him out of the chair and put her on it. I want him to see us kill her." The Russian man said.
"No, no." Ray shook her head.
But she was helpless when they moved her protesting body and put her into the chair.
Bucky stood by. His thoughts were running wild. He couldn't remember but he knew her face. He was trying to figure out who she was and why he didn't want her to die. The Winter Soldier never cared about anyone. Only his missions.
"Stop, please." Ray tried to fight. She truly did. But the men were simply to strong for her. Metal straps constricted her movement. Her arms and legs were strapped down.
"Bucky!" Ray cried. "I know you're in there. Don't let them do this to me, don't let them kill me."
Bucky blinked. He started to see certain images, memories of her. But they were fuzzy.
"Buc-." A gag was put into the young woman's mouth. Hot and heavy tears rolled down her mouth. She was defeated. He wouldn't wake up and she would die here today.
The buzzing of a machine filled her ears and out of the corner of her eyes she saw black metal plates line the sides of her head. Ray begged to God to spare her life.
