Chloe's POV
A couple seconds after Lieutenant leaves us, Donatello and I walk to the witnesses to have a talk with them.
"Sally Watts."
"Yes?" She sounds scared and she's literally shaking.
"I'm Detective Decker and this is my partner Detective Mosquit. We have some questions that we'd like you to ask."
"Detective Decker, I don't think that's a great idea," Becca says protectively, knowing that she's suffered alot. I think they all feel the same.
"Listen, I know this is really, really difficult for you, and this may be a little sappy, but, I've been through something very similar," I pause, she looks into my eyes. "I lost him and there was nothing that I could've done to save him, but, at least, I can try to make sure that the killer is brought to justice for what they've done." Sally asks me tearfully, "You promise?"
"I promise you, Sally; we'll catch them." Sally takes out the coat that she had around her body.
"Okay."
"Now, do you know anyone who'd do this?"
"No. No, everyone loved Samantha. She's a kind-hearted , strong, smart woman. I really can't imagine that anyone would do this."
Donatello looks at me and I look at me.
"Do you know anyone who might've had a problem with her?" Donatello asks Sally.
"Samantha and I are sisters, so we would get into fights all the time," Sally jokes lightly as tears streams down her cheeks. I look at her with empathy.
"Maybe, her ex-boyfriend," I snap out of it.
"Boyfriend?"
"Keith Michaels. They've been together for three years back. But, Samantha broke up with him because he cheated on her with Dawn Mendez, three months back." We look at Sally curiously. "Samantha's ex-best friend." We mouth, "Oh." Sally adds, "He might have a grudge against her still or something." Sally gets more worried and cries more. Her tears streams down her cheeks; I can see how overwhelming it must be for her so I decide to stop her from continuing any longer.
"Okay, Sally. You can stop, you don't have to continue anymore."
"No! No, it's okay; it's just so painful. This is all my fault." Donatello looks at me, and I vice versa.
"Why would you say that, Sally?"
"Because I told Samantha that I would protect her, but, I didn't. She's dead because of me," Sally says as she cries overwhelmingly. I touch Sally to reassure her properly.
"Sally, we'll get the person who did this; we'll stop them, okay?" I look her with total honesty in my words, she looks into my eyes trustingly, and with tears running down her cheeks. She sniffles lightly and adds, "Okay. Thank you, Detective Decker."
"Thank you, Ms. Watts," Donatello appreciates Sally's help.
I nod slowly before Donatello and I say our farewells and walk towards the crime scene. While we walk back to the crime scene, Lieutenant Grunes walks towards us.
"Lieutenant. Did you find anything?" I ask curiously.
"No. Absolutely nothing," He replies; a slight hint of disappointment in his voice. "What about you two?"
"Sally, the victim's sister told us that Keith Michaels, Samantha's ex-boyfriend broke up a three months ago. I know that it might seem a bit far-fetched, but, hatred takes a very long time to fade away," I explain to the lieutenant.
"So Keith Michaels killed his ex-girlfriend over some subtle break-up?" I stare at the lieutenant in complete silence and Donatello does the same.
"Okay, I mean, my gut tells me that it's too easy, but, we've got to follow any possible leads."
"Guys!" We look to our right and see Ella and Dan walking towards us with possible evidence in a zipped bag.
"We found this," Ella speaks, showing us the evidence in the transparent bag. We look upon a phone - a flip-flop phone, more accurately. It's also bloody.
"Is that killer's phone?" Donatello, Lieutenant Grunes and I synchronize.
"Might be. I mean, we hope it is," Ella says, holding firmly to her faith.
"But, a phone is very, very flimsy, right? I mean, it's easy to replace it," Donatello points out.
"We know," Dan responds; he puts out something else from another evidence bag, a bloody knife. "A knife."
"And this is just a part of the news," Ella speaks; we look at her, confused.
"What's the other part?" Donatello asks curiously.
"They both belong to..." Ella speaks, but, Lieutenant Grunes bursts it out.
"Keith Michaels." Ella and Dan nod; Donatello and I are utterly dumbfounded and bewildered as to how he figured that out.
"Lieutenant, how did you know?" I ask sincerely waiting for an answer.
"Just a lucky guess," he pauses, "Anyway, now, that we have proofs of Keith Michaels being here, he may be definitely be the potential suspect, so bring him. In meantime, I've got something that I need to do." Lieutenant Grunes walks away. We are confused; I call him and he turns, "Where are you going, Lieutenant?"
"To see an old friend. We've got some business that we desperately need to resolve an issue. I'll be right back." We give each other confused stares.
"So, what do we do?" Ella asks me, I am still perplexed as to what just happened. "Chloe!"
"Yeah?" I finally snap out of it.
"Are we going to get the guy or not?" Ella asks rhetorically.
"Yeah. Yeah, we are," I answer anyway. "Just bag the bodies and the evidence. And, Dan, just give us a second."
"Sure." Dan and Ella leave awkwardly.
"I swear it's almost as if he has something to hide. The dude's a real enigma; he just gets weirder everyday."
"Yeah."
"But, fortunately, he's the least person that we need to worry about right now. So, let's go catch Keith Michaels." Donatello leaves me standing there and walks back to my car. After a couple seconds of staring, I turn around and follow him.
