Chole's POV
After the lieutenant apologied to me, he walks out of the apartment immediately. Maze looks at me, and I look at her - we're both super stumped as to why he walked like that. It feels a bit awkward. I decide to distract myself.
"Maybe, there's an ID on the guy in the bath-tub," I speculate.
"Well, maybe we should check," Maze replies in a somewhat eager tone.
"Okay," I say awkwardly. We head back to the bathroom, Maze gently lifts the guy's body while I put my gloves on. From the looks of his clothes he looks like a delivery boy. Once I did, I look for his ID, and I take it out of his left pocket. Maze puts his body down in its resumed position and looks into his ID.
"Matthew Henry. Age: 26. Works at Dominoes" I stop abruptly.
"What?"
"He doesn't fit the pattern."
"Why? Because he's not blonde like Susan Henderway or a female?" Maze jokes casually.
"Neither. All the girls that died were 36 years old. He's not even their age. He's just random killing."
"Okay, so he was probably delivering pizza to this room."
"That's likely."
"Alright. I'll go get the lieutenant. He needs to hear this."
After Maze left, I pull out my phone from out of my pocket and call Ella.
"Hey, Chloe. You got the..." I cut her before she could finish.
"Susan Henderway is not the killer."
"Really? But, she has to be a suspect, right?"
"Actually, she's a victim. She's dead."
"What?" She gasps.
"Yeah, and this time, there's a guy."
"Well, that's odd."
"Same thing I said."
"I'll be right there. I just gotta get my things."
"Yeah." I hang up.
I walk out the bathroom, and same time, Dan bimps into me, figuratively.
"Dan."
"I bumped into the lieutenant, he told me she's dead, and he seemed..."
"Pissed, yeah. The case is getting to him," I say insightfully.
"I think the case is getting to all of us, Chloe," he points out. I agree.
"The body's in there?" He asks.
"Bodies. Two. A female and a male," I correct him.
"So the killers just changed their M.O.?"
"It seem..." I abruptly stop.
"What?" I look at Dan.
"Hold on." I walk back in the bathroom to look for his keys to his motor-bike and I take it out his right pocket. "There we are."
I walk out of the motel room, press the button and instantly I find this bike. I run downstairs and approach the motor-bike and examine it. Dan follows me the whole time.
"What are you looking?"
"Something that makes sense. Something plausible."
"And we're going to tear apart the whole bike?" Dan sardonically retorts.
I open the compartment and I find a whole bunch of stuff. Unfortunately, they're not the stuff that I'm looking for. After a few seconds, I find a notebook, probably about a book to remember his deliveries, and it is. I carefully examine it to look for something that would stand out perfectly. Fortunately, I reach the last page which seems to be the last time he wrote in this book. It says Pepperoni pizza with bread sticks, but that isn't the strange thing. It seems to be dated yesterday.
"He died yesterday. Or more accurately last night."
"Premeditated murder. Which means..."
"He wanted us to these bodies. These guys are toying with us." I turn around to face him. "He's seriously rattling us."
"Well, it's really working," Dan says sarcastically.
"But, luckily, we can rattle him back." He looks at me strangely. "I think I've got a plan, and it's definitely going to work."
Now
Maze's POV
I walk out of the alley and shortly after, Gabriel follows me. We head to the SWAT van and conversate.
"Thanks, Maze," he says chivalrously.
"You're welcome," I retort politely. "I know what's like to hit rock bottom. You know, actually, I was born there." I chuckle and he laughs. I add, "But, what I've seen here, felt here, done here. It made me feel more human, and I've learn some things from them, such as exotic foods, dances, music and..."
"I swear, Mazikeen of the Lilim, if you say 'sex'."
"But, push all the sexual gratifications aside, they've shown me that the world's full of amazing things that should be cherished, fight what really matters, and made me human. And I know classifying myself makes me feel sort of weak, vulnerable and pathetic, but with time, you get stronger, and you learn not to give up in what you truly believe in. And I'll carry that with me forever. Never give in, Gabriel."
"I never did."
"Just humor me."
"Okay, I definitely won't."
"And you might wanna wipe your hands."
"Thanks."
"No mention."
