(Everly's POV)

"Me?! But I don't know how to fight!" Nova looks around the room before turning her gaze to the floor, "I've never been a fighter, that's why Everly always protects me."

August gives a gentle smile, "I understand, my dear, it's scary for everyone at first, but, what better way to discover your powers than to be thrown into battle?"

"Okay, since Everly will be there, I guess it's alright." I reach over to grab Nova's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze, we then follow August into the monitor room.

Piper doesn't even glance in our direction as her fingers glide gracefully over the keys. A video from inside the bank appears on the screen, but there isn't any sound coming through. I look around a little bit to see if it bothers anyone else and notice Nova doing the same thing before letting my eyes settle back on the video.

"We've already heard their demands before, they don't change what they want. It's always money and a new car for their getaway." August's eyes never leave the screen, he stares at it almost as if he's looking for something.

I look more closely at the scene before me. The taller of the Deviants reaches out with arms that seem to stretch four or five feet from his body, completed with fingers that resemble death scythes. He is unnaturally skinny with bug like eyes and mandibles where his mouth should be.

The other Deviant is shorter and much more round with an almost disc-like body. He has scales that look much like armor on his arms and back. His nose and lips stick out some reminding me of a snapping turtle and his bald head looks leathery in the light.

The duo have a brilliant attack and defense method, the mantis uses his long arms and razor sharp claws to attack while the turtle uses the shell on his back as defense; it appears to be bullet proof. The part that catches me off guard is when the turtle spews water like a fire hydrant.

"They make a good team, but they wouldn't be as efficient by themselves. If I could fight one on one with the turtle, I could use my spores to knock him unconscious and Jax can fight against the mantis. The trick will be getting them apart from each other, but that shouldn't be too difficult. While we have the Deviants distracted, Axel and Nova will sneak in and free the hostages." I turn around to see the rest of the group staring at me as if I'd just explained rocket science.

August points to mantis on the screen, "That's a great idea, but we don't know what his ability is, it seems to be something associated with medal, but we've yet to determine exactly what it is."

"That's easy, it isn't medal, his power is controlled heat."

August looks slack jawed at me, "You got all of that from this video?"

"Yeah, where the door is melted at the top, you can slightly make out a palm print where he started. After the space was hot enough, it melted down as if he was controlling where it went."

"I'm an idiot!! Why didn't I notice that before?!" August face palms.

I turn to Jax and Axel, "What are your powers?"

"Well, Axel's power is fire and mine is wind."

"Great, we can work with this! Jax, when we get in there, I want you to build a wall of wind to protect the hostages while Axel uses a controlled pinpoint of fire to cut through the medal and open the doors. Nova will hang back with Axel to help protect the hostages. The controlled heat is bad, but the water is our biggest issue, so I'll do what I can to get in close and knock him out with my spores."
