"Mom, let's go, we're going to be late...is daddy going to meet us there?" I hope not. I bet he's going to be late. That's Michael, late with excuses.

"Yes, Lyla, I don't think he'll be late for your graduation" I frown at the thought he would be late. It's not every year, your daughter graduates from College.

Here we go! She's graduating and I'm a total mess. But having Linda and Lexi here makes it more special.

"Look, Alix, look at that youngin...Oh wait, look at his body. Why do they have to have a cape, to hide it?' I look over to where Linda's pointing at. I slap her hand away.

"Put your finger down. Is there any way you can put your hormones down for an hour, Whereat Lyla's Graduation, and you are here checking out these young men, Linda?" I express and look around to see if someone saw her point to the young man.

"Nope," and we laugh. But I sneak and look by the corner of my eyes at what she calls a youngin. Shit, she's right. But not like the one back at the coffee shop, the other day. What is up with me lately thinking about young men these days. It's not my usual and it's not something, I will ever see doing, to date someone young anyway.

Finally, It's Friday, Graduation/Birthday Bash for Lyla I've been planning for a month. The weather forecast, held up part of its bargain, perfect sunny morning so far.

I decided to throw them together since she just turned 22 a couple of weeks ago. Just to think, the first day I brought her home and just like that, she's 22, a graduate from college and now ready to take on the world.

I can feel tears building up. No, no, not now, too much to do before the guests arrive. I do need a drink, though. I'm parched from all the running around this morning. The bartender was the first on my list of priorities planning this shindig. Checkpoint.

"Mom. I've just received some texts. Some friends are gonna be arriving soon. Everything looks perfect, don't add to it" she yells walking down the staircase.

"Lyla, please 1,2,3 and it'll be done before they'll arrive" I respond, "Just tiding last-minute decors" Where's Linda with the Champagne?

"Mom, must you always go over the top," she blurts out from over the kitchen.

"Yup, that's me, wait until you have kids, you'll do the same at what mothers and fathers do for their children" I express.  She's not even hearing me. I guess I was talking to myself as usual.

But I lied, somewhat, I don't know what that meant growing up. My mother baked a cake, we sang, cut a piece, ate and went to sleep. I didn't have the pleasure of inviting friends or family over to celebrate my birthday or any other special occasion. Surprisingly, I had family members show up from all over, for my so-called, exciting wedding to Michael, Lyla's late for all occasions dad.

"Alix, what a great job you did" I hear Linda's voice from behind. I turn as she's scoping out the decor, looking around the yard, walking in.

"You know me, got to go over the top" shrugging my shoulders happy go lucky.

"Thank god, she didn't charge you for both your weddings, that lasted only one year" Lexi comments walking behind, laughing, holding three large gift bags, teasing her.

"Ha-ha...it's Saturday Lexi, what are you doing out? Church is on Sundays," she snaps giving her the famous Linda smirk.

"Girls, come on its Lylas day, not a boxing match.

"Oh, Lexi you know I love you," Linda says as she hugs Lexi.

"Sure..sure" she replies, rolling her eyes nodding her head.
