it had been weeks since eddie last spoke to richie.the argument they had was forever making eddie upset and even though he was constantly thinking of richie, richie didn't show up. he didn't show up, because he knew eddie didn't want to see him anymore. or so that's what he thought. eddie was now at school, in his art class. it was the middle of the day and considering it was beginning to be cold outside, eddie didn't feel great most of the time.
very abruptly, the teacher called eddie over. "you're being called home." she informed. eddie furrowed his brows, confused. his mom never called him out of school, so he thought something must've been wrong. sonia doesn't even call eddie out of school for a doctors appointment so he was very puzzled.
he picked up his backpack and threw it over his shoulder, leaving the classroom. he walked down the empty halls, sighing softly. he went to the office and looked around before approaching the office lady. "uh, is my mom here?" he questioned.
she looked at eddie through her thin framed glasses before she looked to the computer in front of her.
"last name?" she asked. "kaspbrak." he answered quietly, shifting his stance. she typed in a few things before looking back at the boy. "she didn't call at all today...only a young man." she informed. eddie had thought. young man? "perhaps your brother, but you're wanted home. sign out before you go." she pointed to the sign out sheet on the tall desk. eddie didn't have a brother...
he picked up the ball point pen and wrote down his name, the date and the time. "have a good rest of the day." she said before eddie went out the door.
eddie groaned, beginning to walk home. it was the coldest it had ever been. the sky was grey and blue, the wind was blowing and he was pretty sure it would start pouring, just his luck. he got home and took his key out, unlocking the door and going in.
he shivered and set the key down on the counter, rubbing his hands together. "mom?" he called out. he rolled his eyes when he remembered that she was probably at work or something. he set his bag down on the couch and opened the fridge, grabbing some left over pizza from the other night. he put it on a plate and heated it up in the microwave.
eddie went for his room, slipping his shoes off. he changed his regular day socks for a pair of fuzzy and more comfortable socks, going over to turn the heater on. he took the pizza out of the microwave and poured a glass of water, going to the table.
he grabbed his phone out of his pocket and turned it on. eddie wasn't big on social media apps. he was the type to occasionally scroll through instagram and not even bother with snapchat. he was more the kind to contact people over regular messages. call him old school, but he found it easier to use.
once he finished eating, he put his plate in the dishwasher and took his water with him back to his bedroom. he shut the door and set the cup down on his night stand. eddie lied down and wrapped his arms around himself, trying to stay warm.
an ice cold chill ran down eddies leg, making him jump up. much to his surprise, he met with richie.
"god, don't do that!" he practically yelled. "you're cold." he muttered after, sitting up. richie chewed on the inside of his cheek, pulling away. "why did you call my school?" he asked curiously. richie furrowed his brows. "what do you mean?" he had tried played dumb. eddie glared at him, not in the mood for jokes right now. "richie." he warned.
richie stayed silent, just shrugging his shoulders.
eddie scoffed and turned the other way, now facing away from him. "well leave, because i don't wanna talk to you." he mumbled, staring at the blankets. he quietly thought about the fight between them.
"well, i wanna talk to you." he argued lightly. eddie stayed silent, not saying anything. "look, i don't know what you're feeling, but i'm sorry if i hurt you or something. i didn't mean to." he apologized. the silence grew stronger. "i'm not good at this stuff, okay?" richie continued on, wanting him to talk.
"i've never been good at emotional stuff...and i'm not saying you're emotional. if you are, that's totally cool but i'm not good at the whole let's talk about our feelings thing." he slowly said. he began to realize that all he was good at was anger. he was always so mad. there was this fire in his gut that he could never get rid of and he didn't know why.
eddie turned over, looking at him. "let's talk about it." he suddenly said. richie looked at him. "huh?" he was caught off guard. "why are you so upset all the time?" he asked carefully, shifting under his covers to warm up. richie simply shook his head.
"you don't understand and i can't explain." was all he said. "bullshit." eddie confronted. "excuse me?" the dark haired boy raised his brows. "try me. i'm a fast learner." eddie wanted to hear about richies past life. he wanted to know who he was before it.
"maybe another time..." richie trailed off, not really thinking it would be a good time to spill everything on him right now. "why? what's wrong with right now?" eddie asked, confused. "eddie." richie quietly said, giving him a look. eddie stared at him, not understanding. there was a certain look in his eyes.
maybe vulnerability, but richie didn't know what to do about that. he looked away and fiddled with the familiar ring on his finger. eddie looked down at his hands. richie slid it off and handed it to eddie.
"don't take it off this time, okay?" richie gave him a slight smile, attempting to lighten the mood. eddie smiled as well, taking the ring. "promise." he said as he slid it back on his finger and for a moment he swore his body got warmer just from putting it on.
richie stood up, but eddie grabbed ahold of his hand without thinking, making him look down. "wait," he began. he let go of richies hand due to how cold it was, flushing. "i have a question." he continued, seeing richie stand and wait to hear.
"am i gonna get any information about what you were like before what happened to you?" he asked quietly, genuinely wanting an answer. richie was timid hearing the question. "tell you what..." he sat back down on the chair, having all his attention.
"whenever i come, you can ask me a question. only one, though." he offered. eddie nodded, taking it. he already asked the question today, so he'll have to wait for tomorrow or whenever he showed up again. richie smiled a bit before standing back up. as eddie blinked, richie was gone so suddenly.
sometimes he hated how easily richie could leave.
it felt like abandonment, but they weren't even close to knowing each other. at least not yet. eddie was as determined to get to know him as he was to start asking questions about him. he didn't know what was in store, but he would have to find out.
my history teacher had a conversation abt big time rush with the class yesterday & it turns out he's the biggest james stan out there. also v disappointed that some people didn't even know btr. rip 😔
