Chapter Six

I woke up Tuesday excited to go to my classes.

I didn’t have to take any foreign languages, because thanks to my parents, I was already fluent in Spanish, French, and Italian. They insisted on tutors so that when we vacationed there, we would know the language.

When I decided on being a doctor, my parents also brought in a Latin tutor. I’m not fluent, but I do know quite a bit, I’ve been learning Latin for two years. And it’s true what they say about when you learn your second language, the rest come easier.

Spanish and Italian are similar to me, so once I learned Spanish, Italian wasn’t so hard. French I have to admit was difficult for me, but Latin is by far the hardest.

I have three classes today, and am taking more than just the four most kids seem to be taking. So first of the day is Calculus. I don’t have to take it right now, most people take it wither junior or senior year so they don’t forget for medical school, but I love math.

I’m not behind because the first two weeks are review, and I also stayed up on the homework. This class is going to be easy.

I got to class early so I could talk to the professor. Ms. Heart.

“I hope her personality matches her name” I thought to myself before knocking on the door.

“Come in” I heard from inside. Her tone seemed nice enough

when I went inside I shook her hand “Hello, my name is Sophia Ryer. I just wanted to come by and see if there is anything else I need to do to get caught up” she just smiled

“Hello Miss Ryer. It’s good to finally have you here. Based on the reviews and homework your brother brought back to me, I don’t think you’re going to have any problems. We do have a test today. If you’re not ready, I understand and you can come in after class on Thursday to do it.”

I was glad she was nice, I don’t do well with confrontation.

“No, I’ll be ready today as long as it’s just review and we haven’t already learned a chapter or something while I was gone”

“okay. Well there is only one open seat in here, and you’ll be seated next to Mr. Shaw. You’re also the only freshman in this class, so don’t let them bother you too much.”

Oh god. I know that name all too well. Why am I always stuck with him!? Most likely because no one else wants to be. I know our classes are quite full, because there aren’t a lot of periods for classes. Only a couple of each. So each class is usually booked. Damn it.

I walked over to my seat, and to my dismay, he was already there. His eyes locked with mine, and I could feel the uneasiness growing in my stomach.

He just smiled at me, amused as always. I only had my classes for the day twice a week, so they were going to be longer than the other ones I already had with him. Could this get any worse?

As I sat down, his expression changed from one of amusement to one of shock, and then back again. Oh god, he was going to day something.

“Sophie. Aren’t you a  freshman?” i smiled, because he looked and sounded confused.

“Yes, Mr. Shaw I am. And you are?” I wondered, because I knew he was older, just not sure how much.

“A Junior. And so if you’re a freshman, what are you doing in here?” he was growing more confused by the minute, and I have to say I was enjoying it “Shouldn’t you been in Pre Cal or something?”

“Nope” I popped the p “already took that last year” I said then smile

“Well if you need any help, I would be more than happy to cone to your dorm and be your private tutor.” He whispered.
