She did it, she finally kissed him. And he pretended to still be asleep! Doug started laughing, but Evie was angry. She pushed his legs off the table so he was in a sitting up position. She sat down next to him and crossed her arms, pretending to pout, which made Doug begin to frown. He scooted closer to her, and bumped her shoulder, resulting in both of them giggling. Doug wrapped his arm around her waist and brought her as close to him as he could without her sitting in his lap. Evie sighed into his touch, and dropped her head onto his left shoulder. He kissed her temple gently, and they sat in silence for what felt like a lifetime.
Doug whispers, "Evie, I love you. More than anything on this earth. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to say it."
Evie looks up and presses her lips to his with a little more passion than before. "Why did it take you so long?"
Doug took a deep breath, and began, "I wasn't sure how you felt, I just didn't want to scare you away. I know I'm not a prince, and I know I can't provide what any other guy in Auradon could provide for you. I just didn't want to disappoint you more than I already have. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. I fell head over heels in love with you that first day I met you. And when you started pining over Chad, I was completely heartbroken, and I realized that I didn't have a chance, that I would never have a chance if people like Chad were in the picture. But then we started getting close, we did our homework together, watched countless movies, took hundreds of walks around campus, and I saw the real you, the real Evie. You were kind, intelligent, funny, but most importantly the most forgiving person I had ever met. I realized that you were it for me. I was afraid that telling you would push you away..."
Doug stopped, and looked down at his princess. She began to cry, and as he looked at her, he saw all the love in her heart. He took her cheeks in his hands, and began tenderly kissing the tears off her face, but every so often returned to peck her perfectly glossed lips.
Evie smiled, totally aware of the effect this guy has on her. He kissed her lips, and she held him there for quite some time, deepening the kiss. "I love you, too. Always have, always will."
