CHAPTER III

We walk past the hallway. There are doors close as we past by, I assume they're offices. Offices for what?

The whole building seems to be made of opaque thick glass. Everywhere I turn my eyes on, there are muscular, bald, smoking man wearing black suits. I conclude then that I'll be wearing the same when I work here.

"That's an adorable creature you have there, Mint!" someone behind shouted.

The black man on my right answered back. "None of your business bald man!"

At the end of the hallway, is a white elevator.

I stopped walking before we reached it.

"Where's the stairs?" I asked.

They both looked at me as if I've asked a stupid question.

The blond haired man suddenly laughs. "You scared of close spaces Man, huh?"

Its true. Ever since Gregory and some of our Family members were killed that night, I never again can't stand elevators and tiny places. Just the sight of it makes my skin crawl.

The black man, who I think goes by the name of Mint, put a hand on his face. "What the hell, the boss's office is on the ninth floor, you wanna climb the stairs that up?"

I looked at him sternly. "Where's the stairs?"

They both pointed to left and I start to walk towards it.

"We'll wait for you up there kid!" and they both chuckle. "After an hour maybe?" laughs.

I start climbing the wide stairs. Its not that steep anyway and I think it was design in a way that the pull of gravity can be felt less.

After 20 minutes, I've reached the ninth floor. I paused for a while and take a deep breath.

The ninth floor is different from the other floors below. It doesn't look like an office but a home, with brown carpet leading to a huge glass door at the end of the hallway. On the left was a room that looks like a small drinking bar. The two men who accompanied me earlier sits there, smoking. They both looked up when they saw me.

"That was quick for that small legs of yours kid."  Mint said.

They guided me to the room at the end of the hallway. Mint knock first and another man in black suit came out.

"This kid's gonna do business with our boss." he informed.

This time, the man on the black suit raise an eyebrow at me, and his eyes move from my shoes to my face. I frowned.

"Mr. Blythe Chavillon, isn't it?" he asked with a pitchy voice.

"Yes, Sir."

"The boss thought your Family's ready to leave town now, come here inside.."

I took a stepped but notice that Mint and the other one starts turning around.

"You wouldn't come with me?" I asked.

"Of course not!" the blond haired man smirk as they start to walk away.

When I came in, my jaw dropped at how enormous the room looks on the inside. It was elegantly designed, with paintings hanging on the wall and large curtain windows on the front. The floor's covered with red carpet. There's even a fireplace on the far right and the chandelier hanging above, Man, it was exquisite. I feel like I stepped into some monarchial place.

I look around and saw a man sitting with his back on us. I can hardly tell what he looks like since the chair he's sitting covers his body up to the neck. He was smoking.

"Boss, the representative from the Bondemer Family has arrive." the man on my side announced and then looks at me suggesting that I introduce myself.

As a sign of courtesy I bowed low as I speak. "I am Blythe Chavillon from the Bondemer Family Sir.. I came here to settle the debt my organization has owed to yours."

"Blythe huh? Your name suits you little punk, you look like a doll." the man spoke, his voice deep and filled with what I can describe as amusement.

When I lift up my head I was surprised to be staring back at a young man, I think about my age. He was wearing a white suit, with the upper buttons open, slightly revealing his lean chest. His blue black hair was styled back and stormy eyes that gazes as if he's about to melt things, his jawline perfectly curved that gives him a nugged look and he was... like... the most handsome man I ever set my eyes upon. When he stood up, he's tall and very lean, and as he walks toward me I felt the need to look up so I can meet his eyes.

"So, where's my billion dollar?"

I was momentarily mesmerize by his looks but that question brought me back to my senses. I look away.

"I don't have it yet Sir.." I answered.

"You don't have it? what are you doing here then?" he walks to his desk and lighted up another cigarette. "Ah! so your Family will settle the debt through the second option, right?"

I watch him as he let out a smoke. "I'm afraid that's our only way Sir."

"That's fine. Where's your highest leader, is he with you? I like to talk to him regarding his work."

"I am that person Sir."

The man on my side and this boss looks at me for a moment as if I've cracked the funniest joke on earth.

The man broke into laughter but I can tell that he's trying his best to conceal it while the boss only lets out a dry chuckle.

"That's very funny lass.." the man on my side said. I glared at him and clenched my fist hard. This is what I expected anyway.

"I'm the supposed to be successor of our Family Sir. But I know you're aware of what happened to us so yes, Im here to work with you as long as its necessary." I began explaining. I took an old paper on my bag, the payment agreement between the two Family written thirteen years ago. "According to here, the second option..."

I was about to explain that according to the agreement, the terms of service in the second option says that I have to work for them on a total of 376 days, but the boss cut me off.

"Shut up with that shit." he blurt out, letting out a smoke and then sits back on his chair with his feet on the desk. "You go home now little man and tell your boss that if he doesn't get his ass on this place I'm gonna burn down his house."

Just as what I expected. I felt angered by that remark.

"I am the highest boss our Family have now and if you can't believe it you can do a hell of background research but I am telling you at this moment that I am the boss!!" I said with as much as irritation I could convey on my voice.

They both look at me with wide eyes.

Silence.

The boss smirked and look away. "Well then, you're starting here tomorrow, you can come whenever you want and you will spent six hours here as an underdog." he paused as he looks at me again. "And you will be working your ass on this place without pay.."

The hell! I felt like I was punched in the stomach with that last sentence. Without pay. Six hours a day.

But I guess its fine compared to the horrible things my brain runs over if I wouldn't do this.

Crap, I, Blythe Chavillon of the Bondemer Family, will be an underdog for the next 376 days. Just thinking about it makes me want to throw up.
