"Do you read much about history Roman? Earth History?"
"Sort of. I mostly read about the fall of North America."
"Why that time period?"
"I don't know Lena. Maybe because it seems like the same problems they had then and there aren't so different than ours here. You know?"
Lena leaned back in the chair gaining a little more comfort. She felt Farville and Montgomery's eyes peering elsewhere. On her navigational screen Lena stared at Roman's lonely craft. A mere small hexagon that moved undisturbed. Blip. A sudden instantaneous smear appeared on the screen. It was directly beside Roman's scout ship. Lena quickly ran a flight recorder replay. She wanted to be certain that there were no glitches.
In the corner of the master screen the flight recorder replayed the last six seconds.
There it was, and just as Lena was about to confirm it with Roman another one appeared, for a longer duration this time and closer to Roman.
The scout ship teetered, and then corrected itself.
"Oookay, what's goin' on. Lena talk to me."
Roman ran his own systems check and flight recorder replay.
"Are you alright Roman?"
"Yeah. Just checkin' things. Did you get a reading."
"Yes. Stand by Roman."
Lena shut off her communicator to the scout ship. She held her headset as if that would help somehow, "Captain Farville. Montgomery, I need you to look at the flight recorder to the scout ship. There's something out there with him."
Adam Montgomery quickly viewed the replay. "What is that? Has it appeared a third time?"
Lena responded, "No." Then returned her communication to Roman. "Roman. How's the scout ship's condition and opperation. Any damages to report?"
"Negative. Quiggy's doin' fine."
Captain Farville received his quick briefing from Montgomery. He was leaning over his shoulder as they spoke in low voices. Then Captain Farville stepped over to Lena, standing to the side of her.
"Roman. The scout ship is still enroute and showing no difflection off course."
"That's what I'm gettin' in here. Everything's stable."
Lena was quiet, as was the rest of the flight deck. The hexagon, that was Roman and the scout ship, moved on across the screen and through the dismal darkness of space.
