"I think we can give Miss Ardon some time alone." Dr. Nancy Keegan spoke and the room responded with their needed absence.
The only remaining person was Nurse Rita Gallow. She rocked Melanie asleep, then set her in the arms of her mother. Then, Rita soon left as well.
Sandra Ardon wept as quietly as possible, as not to wake Melanie, still her tears came and fell on the infants forehead.
Melanie did not awaken. She had a quick chirrup that sounded like she was going to cry, but then she settled her breathing and returned to her pacivity.
As Sandra lie there holding her daughter in tears she knew that this was only the start of it. Those women would be back, and Sandra had to be ready.
