Chapter 15- Best Friends

Y/N's POV

After a couple hours of crying, I decide to go find Alex.  I just needed someone to talk to.  It was late, almost midnight, and I started walking around the quiet house.  It was dark, and everyone was mostly asleep.  When I got to Alex's room, I quietly knocked on the door.  I heard shuffling in his room, but the door slowly opened.  His eyes were red, and he looked as if he'd been crying.

"Alex, are you alright?" I asked.

He chuckled and forced a smile.  "Yeah, I'm alright.  Are you?"

I looked away, not making eye contact with him.  He opened the door to his room even more, letting me in.  I squint from the light filling his room, and walk over to his bed.  All scattered around it are pictures of Alex and another boy I don't recognize.  I hear Alex close the door and sit on his bed.

"Who's that?" I ask, pointing to a photo where the boys are both smiling, their arms wrapped around one another.

He sadly smiled, gazing at the photos.  His green eyes started filling with tears, but he blinked them back.  He almost seemed to be lost in a memory, staring at the pictures.

"His name was Finn," he said, looking up at me, placing the photo back on his bed.

I nodded, expecting him to continue, but all he did was look at more pictures.  I picked up a small stack and started shuffling through them.  The first picture was of them sitting on a couch next to each other.  The next one was of the boys again, but Finn had his arms around Alex.  The next one seemed to be taken right after, because it was almost identical, but this time their lips were attached.

"W-what are you doing?" Alex asked, snatching the pictures out of my hand.

I sat there, confused.

"You kissed a boy?" I questioned.

He sighed and looked away.

"Yeah," he said eventually.  "He was uh, my boyfriend."

I sat there and nodded.

"Well, that's ok," I said, smiling at him.

"I mean, I've liked girls too.  It's just, with him it was different.  You know what I mean?" he asked.

I wasn't sure if I did, but I nodded anyways.

"We used to be best friends, and then eventually, lovers," he laughed.  "I probably sound so stupid right now, don't I?"

"No, of course you don't," I said, moving so I was sitting next to him.

"I mean, I like both boys and girls, I guess."  He turned the other way before putting his head in his hands.  "He made me feel so happy but when other people found out, it got really bad.  The other people in the loop were constantly teasing us, and it got so bad that our ymbrynes made us move loops.  Just like you and Kaitlyn."

I wrapped my arms around him, and he hugged me back.

"I know Kaitlyn doesn't have hope for you and Enoch because of her and Daniel, but I still like to believe Finn and I are together.  I know we probably aren't, but he used his one letter to tell me he would always love me."

I sat there confused for a moment.

"What do you mean, one letter?" I asked.

"Each couple that has been split up gets to send the other one letter.  Daniel used his to break up with Kaitlyn, and she never sent one back.  Finn used his to tell me he loved me, and I used mine to tell him I loved him too, and that I would never forget him."
