Part 27

When Jenna and Michael step into the kitchen, the noise level died down immediately. All of Sofia's boys are seated at the huge wooden table at the back of the kitchen, all eyes directed on Jenna.

Linus, the eldest of Sofia's sons is the first one to approach Jenna. He holds out his hand and Jenna gently shakes it, smiling. "Hello. I'm Jenna" she says.

"Linus" he replies. No matter how hard he tries, he cannot look away from Jenna.

Michael's thoughts

"Ma, I couldn't flush. Somethings wrong with the toilet." Devon walks out from the bathroom, clipping his belt in place. Out of all the times, he has to do this now. I look at Jenna and she has this weird look on her face. Before I ask her, she is already walking toward Devon.

"You asshole" she says and punches Devon in the arm. When he looks up and focuses on Jenna, he has this huge grin on his face. What hell?

"Jenna?" he steps toward her and they embrace as if they are the oldest of friends. He picks her up and she wraps her legs around him. Devon is the tallest and the biggest, by width, as well as the, let's say most adventurous.

"What are you doing here?" he asks when he finally puts her down.

"I'm here with Michael" she replies pointing at me. The room is quiet as we all stare at Jenna and Devon, confusion clearly on everyone's faces. I don't think Jenna or Devon noticed any of us at all. When it finally dawns on them, Devon drops Jenna's hands and like a movie, they turn slowly to face us.

"How do you know each other?" I stutter, after a short awkward silence obviously. Both of them burst out laughing but it was short lived when Sofia stepped forward. Mamma looks... Upset? Confused maybe?

"Well, do you remember a couple of years ago I ended up in hospital?" he starts.

"Yes" everyone says in unison.

"Well. Jenna put me there."

"She helped you to the hospital?" I ask. We are still not entirely clear as to what actually happened with Devon that night. He never gave us the full story.

"Not exactly." he looks at Jenna smiling. She nods as if he has permission to speak. This is new. Devon is very vocal without thinking and his abrupt nature has gotten him into more trouble than we can handle. Come to think of it, he changed dramatically after the hospital incident.

"Boy if you don't spit it out, I'm gonna slap you silly." Sofia barks. I feel like I'm watching one of those old tv series where two people are arguing and their friends are swiveling their heads between the two arguing.

"Okay Ma!" He takes a breath and then, "Jenna beat me up and then took me to the hospital." He says softly, looking down and then slowly up at Jenna. To my surprise, she hugs him around his waist and he kisses the top of her head. This is so weird but then again this is Jenna.

"You want to tell me that this woman.......right here.........beat your ass and then took you to the hospital. I'm sure that is what I heard you say." Linus says, stepping forward as he speaks, pointing between the two of them. A huge grin on his face.

"Yeah and then she stayed with me until you guys arrived." He smiles at Jenna again. "She saved my life that night and every night since." He adds.

"What do you mean, every night since." It is my turn to ask some questions now. I am totally lost. Devon is not exactly the tiniest of men and Jenna, well she is, he is three times her size. I have seen her fight against Shrek but Devon is far bigger than that guy.
