Jenna's thoughts
"Hello love" a voice booms from the other side of the telephone and immediately I recognize it as Ricky's. Old fears run through my head when I hear his voice, taunting me of years past.
"How...how did you get this number?" I stutter into the phone. The bad memories cut loose the chains I bound them with and they invade the confident person I have become since I sent him to jail.
"I have my ways. How are you?" he asks me, and I can picture the smile on his demented face.
"No, we are not doing this again. You stay away from me Ricky, I mean it." I tell him as adrenaline floods my system, my heart rate pumping and beating as if it is trying to escape my chest.
"Oh baby, you know I can't stay away from you. You love me and I love you. We need to be together and be happy. You know you want to." He keeps speaking to me as if nothing is wrong.
"Ricky, why are you doing this again? Please just leave me alone." I beg him. Tears stinging my eyes as I press my nails into my forehead.
"Jenna, I will never leave you alone. This world is full of sick people and if you and I are together, I can protect you from them. Don't you see, I will always be here for you." He tells me and I laugh nervously. This is the kind of laugh you have when you find the situation unbelievable.
"You are the sick one Ricky; I can't believe they let you out. You belong in a cage-like the animal that you are. You sick demented fuck." I shout at him.
"I know you don't mean that you're just afraid that Michael will find out. By the way, you look lovely today." He tells me. I stop pacing and take in what he just said.
"How do you know about Michael?" I ask him and walk over to the window, shifting the curtain slightly so that I can scan the area outside.
"Oh baby, I know more than you think. 124 Cavern Street. That's his address isn't it?" Ricky tells me and I feel my body go numb. The phone rattles against my earing and it sounds louder than what it actually is.
Oh no, Michael.
"You leave him alone Ricky, he is not part of this," I say to him. I swallow hard as I press my nails into my forehead again. Think Jenna, think.
"Oh love, that's where you're wrong, he is part of this. He wants to take my place in your life and we can't have that now can we?" He yells at me, and every word coming from this monster's mouth fueling the inferno that blazed inside me. Every phrase, every single word adding gasoline to the fire, I ball my fists clenching my jaw. I need to change the situation.
"How do you know about him? How do you even know where I am?" I have to know, it sounds as if someone is feeding him information and if I can find out who, I can do something. I don't know what yet but I can at least try.
"Well you see, I've been getting these beautiful white envelops in the mail for quite some time. I thought that maybe it was you who was sending it to me so that we can, you know, keep in touch."
"Who has been sending them to you?"
"I don't know, I don't care actually. The envelope smells like cologne or perfume of some kind and it gives me a fucking headache," he confesses.
"I have envelopes and I wear perfume, how do you know that I didn't send it to you?" I don't wear perfume, it gives me a headache as Ricky said.
"Because, the envelope, has embossed initials on it that don't belong to you, and besides, it's not your perfume." I only heard the first part, the part about the initials. I know who has been helping him!
