Jenna rummaged through her handbag for her cell phone and when she eventually found it, she dialed Candice's number. It rang for a few seconds and then went straight to voicemail. She tried a second time and the same voicemail again. She decided to text Candice instead of calling her again.

*Call me when you get this message*

Ten minutes later, the phone rang. "Candy!" she yelled softly.

"Yes. He got out yesterday." There was a brief pause. "I'll meet you there in two hours or so." She said coldly in an even toned voice.

Michael glanced at her as she spoke to Candice. There was absolutely no emotion on her face that he could put a name too. Her breathing was normal, she stared dead ahead as she spoke and she was just calm. Too calm. Michael reached for Jenna's hand but she jerked it away.

"I'm sorry." She said softly. She placed her hand in Michael's and he rubbed the sides of her hand with his thumb hoping that it would sooth her enough to tell him what's going on. She looked down at the small gesture and smiled.

Michael's inner thoughts

This is definitely the strangest person I have ever met. I watch as her smile turns into nothing and it seems as if she drifted off to a place I can't reach. A place where there are no expressions to give away her thoughts or emotions and I can't make out her mood is right now.

I'm going with Pissed off with a capital P because of her other hand flicking open and then closed. I've seen that hand flicking thing just before Shrek. Whatever this situation is that we're going to face, it definitely is not good.

"Where are we going?" Michael asked. She gave him the address and he recognized it as Dr Marks's home.

"This is Steven Marks's address." Michael uttered.

"Yes"

"Why are we going there?" he asks as he turns off onto the highway. "Jenna, talk to me, why are we going to Steven's house?" he asked again.

"Michael. It doesn't concern you. So drop it!" She spat through her teeth.

"Don't do that!!" he said harshly, his voice sounded louder in the small space. "Don't push me away Jenna. I'm not your enemy" he added but there was no reaction from her except for a small crease in her forehead. He wasn't sure if he wanted to push her for an answer but he wanted to know.

"Just let it go okay. There are just some things in my life that you are better off not knowing and this is one of them." She yelled.

"What the fuck Jenna? I just asked!" he yelled back.

"Just drop it okay!"

"Fine!!" he yelled, his jaw clenching.

Jenna turned up the music in the car, leaned against the window and closed her eyes. Michael squeezed her hand and she was grateful for the gesture. That was all he could do to calm the situation. They drove in silence while Michael rubbed circles on her hand with his thumb.

Jenna's inner thoughts

I feel a strange sense of guilt wash over me for the way I yelled at Michael. It hurts slightly and maybe I should apologize. Before I can figure out what to say in my mind, my body shifts in Michael's direction. Traitor.

"You are very important to me Michael." I say to him and he looks a little startled at my words. His expression is soft and he seems flustered. It's nice to see. It's different but nice.

"Yea? How so?" I'm not prepared for those questions but since he asked I might as well tell him.

"I don't know. You make me feel funny inside. Inside my head specifically." I hear myself say but it's not exactly how I feel. I can't really place it. I wish Candice was here to tell me what this is and how I should feel.
